Western Australian Curriculum and Assessment Outline A major change to education in the Kindergarten to Year 10 environment is aimed at providing more clarity around teaching and learning. The School Curriculum and Standards Authority has unveiled the Western Australian Curriculum and Assessment Outline, which replaces the Curriculum Framework. Western Australian schools now have had a mandated curriculum and a common set of achievement standards. It’s a curriculum that describes what students should be taught at each year level and the standards that they are expected to achieve. The Outline builds on the important work of the Curriculum Framework and: is for Kindergarten to Year 10 students includes the Australian Curriculum content clearly defines what students are working towards and how teachers can help them through effective teaching and assessment practice contains a statement about what is expected in the early years to ensure children have the best possible start to their schooling includes achievement standards for all year levels in the Australian Curriculum subjects sets out how schools must report to parents from Pre-primary to Year 10 includes frequently asked questions and links to useful websites and resources.
