In post war Germany Eberhard served two apprenticeships, gaining skills in metalwork and textiles. Later, as an artist, he toured Europe exhibiting in Germany, France and Switzerland. On arrival in Australia he lived and worked at The Rocks in Sydney creating and teaching sculptural weaving, fibreglass and metal sculpture and metal furniture. After moving to the Southern Highlands, he taught sculpture metalwork and modelling in clay. A philosophy runs through his work influenced by both European tradition, the 20th century Dada, Surrealists and Modernists, and also tribal Melanesian art. Significant is the very strong German tradition, the depression and Nazi era of his childhood and later the communist occupation of his then home in Poland. One of his free form bronzes is displayed in the botanical gardens near Rocklaw Cathedral in Poland. Over a lifetime, he has been productive in many mediums, painting, flat weaving, 3 dimensional weaving, furniture, sculptures in wood, bronze, fibreglass and clay. This exhibition also contains jewellery including stones chosen and cut and polished himself, often set in silver.
