SUTHERLAND HOUSE CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE’S SERVICES THE ELIZABETH NEWSON CENTRE JOB DESCRIPTION 1 JOB TITLE: Assistant Child and Young People’s Psychologist 2 REPORTING TO: Specialist Child Psychologist, Lead for Children and Young People and Deputy Head Teacher (Sutherland House School) for day-to-day reporting 3 GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: a Support the Lead for Children and Young People and Deputy Head Teacher and staff at all levels in providing a caring, happy, safe and secure environment for children and their families. b Do everything possible to foster and maintain good working relationships with members of staff and with parents. c Play an active part in promoting good public relations in the locality so as to increase public awareness and support for the aims and objectives of Autism East Midlands as a whole, and Sutherland House School in particular. d Become familiar with the fire, and health and safety regulations, and recording procedures, and ensure that they are strictly observed. e To act at all times according to the policy and philosophy of Autism East Midlands, the school and Centre as outlined in policy documents. F Promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young people in line with safeguarding legislation and Autism East Midlands’ policies and procedures. 1 4 SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: a To contribute to Diagnostic and Assessment sessions held at the Centre, including direct work with children and observation. b To contribute to written reports, meetings and case conferences regarding children for assessment. c To collate and summarise information received about children from other sources, liaising with other professionals as appropriate. d To undertake direct work with parents and families under direction of senior staff. e To contribute to evaluation of service. f To participate in aspects of work with children at Sutherland House School, as agreed with the Deputy Head Teacher, including supervision at playtimes. g To take responsibility for observing, recording and analysing behaviour in high profile pupils. Contribution to planning and monitoring behaviour support programmes. h To maintain a good quality physical environment, including the maintenance of equipment, within the Diagnostic Playroom. i Attend individual staff development meetings and undertake appropriate training by negotiation. j Carry out any other reasonable duties requested by the Specialist Child Psychologist, Lead for Children and Young People and Deputy Head Teacher.
