Thank you for supporting your student and his/her academic success. Middle Ridge Elementary is a uniform school. Research indicates that wearing school uniforms improves a student’s attitude, disposition, and academic success and promotes positive behaviors. School uniforms also give students a sense of community and pride. Please use this information to prepare for your student’s attire while attending Middle Ridge Elementary School. Uniforms consist of solid color uniform pants, shorts, jumper, or skirt in khaki/tan, black or navy and should be worn with a belt. All items should fit at the waist, not appearing to be under nor oversized for the student. Shorts and skirts should be at least to the student’s fingertips in length. Shirts/blouses should be solid color, collared or round-necked. Shirts/blouses should not be over sized nor under sized for the student. Red, white, navy, and black are acceptable colors. Middle Ridge spirit wear T-shirts and/or event T-shirts (CHAMPS, Reading Bowl Team, etc.) are also acceptable. Shirts should remain tucked for the entire day for all students. Leggings, tights, socks, hose, etc. worn under appropriate shorts or skirts must be solid uniform colors. Heavy jackets should be hung for the day and only worn during cool weather. Sweaters or sweat shirts maybe worn for warmth and should be solid and in uniform colors. Hoods and hats nor sweat shirts with hoods may be worn during the school day. Athletic tennis shoes are preferred. Students entering Middle Ridge Elementary are expected to be in uniform as quickly as possible upon enrollment. 10 days are given as a grace period to allow for planning or purchasing purposes, but uniforms should be worn in a timely manner to avoid consequences. Uniforms must be worn daily Monday- Thursday. Students may participate in free dress each Friday. If a student chooses not to follow the student dress code, the student will be sent to change into a school owned uniform. If no uniforms are available, the student’s parents will be asked to bring a change of clothes for their child. Students who refuse to follow the dress code rules will be subject to discipline, up to and including in-school suspension for the day. Students who repeatedly fail to follow the dress code, will be subject to further discipline, up to and including out-of-school suspensions. Middle Ridge Elementary holds each student to high expectations. Middle Ridge Elementary will begin the 2014-2015 school year wearing uniforms Monday-Thursday. In December 2014, the school will evaluate the impact of free dress Fridays on the behavior and academic success of students on free dress days. Free dress days may decrease if there is deemed a negative impact on academic achievement and/or behaviors. Notifications of any dress code changes, if any, will be sent home in January 2015.
