College of Education and Human Sciences Student Ambassadors Overview: The College of Education and Human Sciences Student Ambassadors are an elite group of students who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in academics and student leadership. Ambassadors will serve as official host and hostess representatives, student recruitment agents, mentors, and student advisors to the Dean. They will assist with student recruitment, speak to community and university groups and represent the College at receptions and meetings. Ambassadors meet various times throughout the year for planning sessions and to find ways to improve the student experience throughout the college years. Goal: Ambassadors will focus their work around developing professional relationships with leaders in their fields, the understanding of how to impact the community in a positive way, and how to gain leadership abilities that will last a lifetime. The students chosen to be part of this elite group will receive valuable training and develop skills in problem solving, team building, interpersonal communication, diversity, public speaking, networking, and leadership. These respected characteristics will combine in making them more marketable in today’s workforce. Membership Requirements: Student Ambassadors are chosen through a selection process that includes an application and an interview. Applications are accepted in April each year from College of Education and Human Sciences students who meet membership criteria. Interviews are granted to qualified applicants who are selected through a pre-screening review by the Director of Clinical Experiences. To qualify as a prospective Student Ambassador, students must meet application criteria and agree to fulfill membership expectations. Dishonesty during the application process or failing to fulfill membership expectations while an ambassador will result in termination of service from the ambassador organization. To be considered for a position as an Ambassador, applicants must: Be at least a sophomore and enrolled in the College of Education and Human Sciences Have a minimum 2.75 GPA Be in good standing with the university and free of any disciplinary actions Be able to commit to at least one year of service Demonstrate a strong level of commitment to programs and initiatives within the College and UNA through student participation and leadership Be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with a diverse group of people and personalities Be able to visually explore the campus with visitors and help with the recruitment of undergraduates Be available for service assignments at daytime, evening and weekend events Serve as a mentor to other students Allow prospective students to shadow you for a day Attend the scheduled meetings and retreats Benefits of being an Ambassador: Have an opportunity to “leave your mark” and improve the college experience Develop valuable leadership skills Enhance public speaking and interpersonal communication skills Network with UNA staff, faculty and administration Network with COEHS Alumni and p-12 partners Become more familiar with COEHS history and purpose Why should I apply to be a COEHS Ambassador?
