Animal Ambassador Program
This program offers an intern the opportunity to work with a variety of program animals
including; tamanduas, birds of prey, servals, parrots, and a wallaby. The Animal Ambassador
Program is an innovative program that provides an opportunity for guests to make a direct
connection with zoo animals. An Animal Ambassador intern may participate in keeper chats,
animal presentations, and assist with special tours. These events take place throughout the zoo,
as well as at external venues. Interns will learn techniques of operant conditioning while
observing daily animal training sessions.
Interns receive practical, hands-on experience in keeper duties and learn many aspects of captive
animal management. They will be trained on record keeping, diet preparation, enclosure
maintenance, and behavioral management. Interns will also have a chance to shadow keepers at
the Hamill Family Play Zoo and Wild Encounters.
