Sawsan Ali Mrs. Timm 12 C January 7, 2014 Vocabulary Essay 12 This can not be happening, Sarah thought to herself as she walked through the empty school halls. Sarah’s best friend, Mariah, had simply ignored her today. At first Sarah thought Mariah was having a bad day, but she soon realized that was not the case. Presumptions flooded Sarah’s thoughts. She needed to find out why Mariah was upset with her. Sarah headed to the library where she new she would find Mariah at this time of day. She tried to ignore the butterflies in her stomach as she approached Mariah to confront her. Mariah, however, pushed past Sarah, causing her to fall to the floor. Sarah sat on the floor in shock. How did Mariah have the audacity to treat her like that? Sarah was more sad than furious. She could not wrap her head around how she was losing her closest friend. It all felt surreal to her. Afterschool, one of Sarah’s friends, Jason, came up to her. He seemed reluctant to speak, but he eventually did. Jason told Sarah that there had been some rumors going around school about her. People were saying that Sarah secretly led a decadent lifestyle. Sarah concluded that the rumors painted a sordid picture of her to Mariah. It also incited Mariah to forcefully push Sarah in the library out of anger. Sarah could not help but wonder why Mariah believed the rumors in the first place. She felt a pang in her chest as the betrayal hit her. After a few moments, Sarah thanked Jason and walked home. She figured that a friendship without mutual trust is not one worth fighting for.
