The Law program is ranked by students as 1st in all Law schools in Australia, 1st among Sydney Law schools in providing student support (taken from independent Australian Law Students Satisfaction Survey) Average class size over the last two years in law has been 31. Students can take legal internships all over the world. Mentoring is available in student’s area of interest. 90% employment within four months of finishing course – shared 1st ranking with UNSWA New double degree HR Management/Law next year, with an indicative ATAR of 90. Changes in Education entry requirements for 2016 – government regulations require 3 Band 5s, including English or 2 Band 5s in other subjects plus Notre Dame bridging course. Other pathways to teaching they will be offering are: Option 1: enrol in BA and complete 8 units in 1st year, which map straight into Education 2nd year (must pass all units), or Option 2: complete BA – 3 years – and do 2 year P/G M Teach (2 years) Option 3: apply for B Ed – move to BA automatically if do not get required Band 5s The test: before final practicum students have to do multiple choice English and Maths test (all universities) An Enabling or Foundation program is a possibility but they consider going through a BA is the best choice if students don’t get the required entry levels. Their curriculum is now being changed to include units which will allow students to teach in IB in International Schools. There is also a UNDA requirement to complete a specialisation, English or Maths School of Arts and Sciences Note Social Justice major will be available; this combines well with law, where students are interested in human rights and international law, particularly in working for non-government organisations. Other entry pathways to UNDA include: One semester Tertiary Enabling Program, and 2 semesters Foundation Year. University of Technology Sydney (UTS) Changed courses: B Communication – digital literacy and ethics have been added to core subjects; International Studies are offering a stand alone Diploma of Languages as concurrent study with any other UTS degree; languages include Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese Spanish BA/BEd starting in 2016 with three majors – primary, secondary and K-12, and three sub-majors – STEM, TESOL, Special Ed. or Languages, if taking Diploma of Languages. They have yet to decide how they will take in students who do not meet the three Band 5s, including English. Watch their website for further information about this. New Advanced Science Majors will be available in infection and immunity; environmental biotechnology; pre-medicine and advanced materials. If you are going to their Open Day be sure to visit the new Super Lab. – it’s amazing. New Course: Medicinal Chemistry & Biomedical Physics. The Event and Leisure, and B Management (Tourism) will merge into a B Management in 2016. It is possible to add a third major in sport business. There is a compulsory internship and capstone in each major – ATAR is expected to be approx. 80. New B Economics which will be different to courses of that title at other Australian universities. Compare the differences. THINK is part of the worldwide Laureate International Uni. with whom they amalgamated this year. Worldwide, Laureate has 1 million students in 30 countries. In Australia they have eight colleges: Australian National College of Beauty Australasian College of Natural Therapies APM College of Business and Communication Billy Blue College of Design CATC Design School Jansen Newman Institute Southern School of Natural Therapies (Melbourne) William Blue College of Hospitality Management They are working towards centralising their colleges on a modern site in Ultimo but currently are in three locations until they finish renovating their second Ultimo building. The College offers degree courses, which can be accessed directly (with an ATAR of 60) or via a diploma pathway. There is a choice of education by face-to-face teaching, online (with on-site workshops throughout the year), or mixed mode. Their courses are very practical and give students the chance to hit the ground running when they enter employment.
