Welcome to ART 2!! Mrs. Chambliss :: Room 802 Course Description: Art 2 is a course designed to build on the art skills that were obtained in art 1. The goal of art 2 is to enhance the student’s art skills focusing on observational and real life artworks. Art 2 will experience a variety of media including drawing, painting, printmaking, mixed media, and 3-D while still focusing on the elements and principles of design. Learning Objectives: 1. The student will demonstrate competence in the use of ideas, materials, techniques, and processes in the creation of works of visual art. 2. The student will use composition and the elements and principles of design to communicate ideas. 3. The student will examine the content of works of visual art and use elements from them in creating his or her own works. 4. The student will understand the visual arts in relation to history and world cultures and the technologies, tools, and materials used by artists. 5. The student will analyze and assess the characteristics and qualities of his or her own works of visual art and those of others. 6. The student will make connections between the visual arts and other arts disciplines, other content areas, and the world. Units of Instruction: Art history (continuous through semester) Cultural arts Elements and principles of design Printmaking: Linocut; Etching; Monoprint Drawing: Observation; Still Life Mixed Media: Photo transfer Composition: Thumbnails; Gridding 3-D: Ceramics; sculpture People and Portraits: Gesture; Proportion Book Arts: Processes Color Theory Modern Art Processes: Recycled; earth art Required Materials: Spiral sketchbook Drawing pencils Eraser (preferably white) Small personal pencil sharpener Colored pencils (prismacolor pencils are ideal) Folder to hold handouts Container to hold supplies in classroom **Stores will sell artist sets that contain pencils, erasers, a sharpener, etc. rather than having to buy them separately. Particular brands are not required. Optional: Blending stumps for drawing Black sharpie Scissors Markers Glue stick Variety pack of paint brushes Oil/Chalk pastels Glue stick/bottle Old shirts/smock/apron Plastic container with lid to store paint Class Collection (if you have them but don’t need them ): Styrofoam egg cartons (for paint) Plastic containers to hold water/paint Small/Large objects (vases, shoes, knick knacks, fabric to use for still life projects) Magazines/Newspapers/Paper/Cardboard **Materials provided to the students by the teacher are for class use only and are shared among all classes. Students will be held responsible for all materials they use and are expected to respect all art materials and return them at the end of class** Art Classroom Rules: 1. Be on time (3rd tardy-detention, 4+-referral) 2. Be prepared when you come to class with materials, homework, projects, etc. 3. Be respectful of ALL art materials; yours and the art room materials. 4. Be respectful of others. 5. Clean up after yourself and be responsible for the materials you use. Referral to administration. *Classroom procedures will be continuously enforced throughout the semester* Bring Your Own Device Art Room Policy I encourage you to bring your devices to school as often as you can. I and your other teachers will utilize them throughout the semester to assist in classroom learning BUT there will be procedures as to when the devices can be used and what they can be used for. Along with the Bring your own Device policy per the student handbook, the art room device policy points are as follows: Students will only use their device when the teacher gives permission, otherwise the device stays where the teacher designates it remain when not in use. Students will only use their devices for educational purposes. We will use ours for research, taking photos (still life, landscape, etc.) for you to work on projects outside of the classroom, finding artwork/artists, and during AIR time for reading. Any disruption of the class with the device (not paying attention, playing games, etc.) will result in the following: o Warning o Teacher detention if a second warning is needed o Referral for refusal to obey if a third warning is need. Weekly Sketchbook Assignments A weekly sketchbook assignment will be given on Monday and due every Friday. The sketchbook assignments will coincide with the instructional material and will be done outside of class or to sketch when finished with required classwork. Assignments will include drawing, journaling or both. 5 points a day will be taken off for late assignments. Daily Journaling Journaling will be done as a bell ringer activity every day class meets. A subject and questions will be given when the students walk in to class and they are to answer and reflect on the material given. Journals from the week will be graded every Friday. Journals count as 45% of your weekly participation grade. No late journals are accepted. Research Project You will be required to do a small research project towards the end of the semester. The subject will be given closer to the time of the project. The research you do will be used to complete an art project as part of one of our instructional units. Late Assignments 5 points will be taken off everyday a project or sketchbook assignment is late. A call home to parent or guardian will be made for missing 2 projects, 2 sketchbook assignments, or 2 weeks of journals and participation. Remind 101 Students will utilize Remind 101 as a way of communication from the teacher. I will send reminders of assignment and project due dates as well as other important information!
