GW Wire Rope Spec

advertisement
The proper specifying of steel wire rope for elevators is based on various considerations, including the number of
ropes, diameter, stranding, construction, lay, grade/tensile strength, breaking load, core type, coating,
stretch/elongation characteristics, etc. Because of the many factors which must be considered in specifying the
correct hoist rope our goal will be to achieve maximum rope service life and minimum rope stretch/elongation based
on elevator rise/travel and standard 1:1 overhead machine installations. Other machine arrangements and ropes with
galvanized coating or compacted strands should be discussed with your Gustav Wolf representative.
Historically in North America, elevator hoist ropes were supplied almost exclusively in either Traction grade or
Extra High Strength Traction grade with a Natural Fiber Core such as sisal. However, with the trend toward
elevators with smaller sheaves, aggressive groove profiles, MRL designs and higher cycle counts the use of mixed
or full steel core and nine-strand ropes is becoming common.
The purpose of this document is to assist you in the writing of a generic specification with an emphasis on elevator
hoist ropes and focusing on four Gustav Wolf ropes as the benchmark.
Step 1
Refer to the Wire Rope Selection Guide to select the correct hoist rope based primarily on rise/travel. Make sure to
also refer to the table showing the range of acceptable traction sheave hardness and rope grade/tensile strength. Note
that the guide also includes stretch/elongation information based on 10% of minimum breaking load (Fmin).
Step 2
Select and complete the draft specification below for F 819 S-FC DT, F 819 S-FC DT EHS, PAWO F3 or PAWO
F10. Items in red require editing. The appropriate Draka Elevator Products part number(s) should also be indicated.
Other rope diameters, strandings, constructions, grades, coatings, etc. than those listed are available.
Step 3
Refer to the Wire Rope Selection Guide for recommendations on governor and compensating ropes.
F 819 S-FC DT or F 819 S-FC DT EHS
8-strand elevator rope with natural fiber core
Product information
Most popular rope design in North America. Eight-strand/Seale construction with its larger outer wires better resists abrasion and wear. Dualtensile design of F 819 S-FC DT provides high-breaking strength without damage to sheaves with lower Brinell hardness. Available in Traction
or Extra High Strength Traction (EHST) grade and Right Regular or Right Lang lay.
