SoE Seminar Report Children’s Lived Experiences of Otitis Media (Glue Ear) On Monday 6th October, Carmel Capewell led a very interactive seminar for colleagues from the School of Education and local early years’ settings focused on her research into otitis media – or glue ear and how it is experienced by children, young people and their parents. Carmel explained that much of the research work in the field has tended to be medically focused so that teachers have little awareness that the condition can affect children’s global development and inhibit their progress. However, Carmel’s research has adopted a social model and is of significant relevance to teachers and early years practitioners. In the seminar, Carmel offered advice on how educational environments can be adjusted to mediate the effects of glue ear. If you were not able to attend Carmel’s seminar her PowerPoint presentation will be available at http://researchsupporthub.northampton.ac.uk/category/school-of-education/ , alongside other information about School of Education research.
