The Our Lady of Mount Carmel One Through Prayer and Learning April 2015 Full version @ www.dpcdsb.org/CARMS/News PRINCIPALS MESSAGE “But the fruit of the spirit is … Joy” (Galatians 5:22) Every morning we begin the day at Carmel with O Canada, Morning Prayer and announcements (now supported by our TV daily feed). When one hears the number of activities that the teachers and staff offer beyond the school day over the course of a year it is extraordinary! To listen to the number of teams, clubs, academic supports, or events that are meeting, preparing or competing is heartwarming for a principal. It says the community is vibrant and encouraging young people to develop their gifts. Since the beginning of February students have taken part in Math contests, 24 Hour Fast, Semi Formal, Curling (the boys competed in OFSSA), Europe Trip, Great Gulp, Skills Canada, Chess Tournament, Talent Show, Concert Band contests (to the Nationals!), Cyphers, Health Care Club Presentation Night, Pink T Shirt Day, Programming Contest (congrats to OLMC Ladies coders who advance to the Regionals), Salesians/CIA presentation for Holy Week, Spirit Point Trip and this is not a complete list!! These are only the first term of semester two activities. As you can see many gifts are shared at Carmel. Every week is Catholic education week at Carmel but we do take the time to honour our faith in this special way from May 4 to May 8. On Tuesday, May 5th students and staff will learn more about vocations and religious orders. On Wednesday, May 6th our charity event that highlights the arts at Carmel called Focus Gallery will start at 6:30 pm. On Thursday May 7th, we will be celebrating our school mass and on Friday May 8th, will hold our annual Carmel Multicultural Day. It promises to be a very inspiring week. Our cold winter appears to have grudgingly ended just as Term 2 begins. It is challenging for students to remain focused as the warm weather becomes a reality however there are substantial learning opportunities that still lie ahead in semester two courses. It is imperative that we communicate the need to stay on task because there are many marks yet to be earned! The final Parent Council Meeting for this year will be held on Wednesday June 3, at 7 pm in the library. All are welcome! God bless, P.
