Individuals and Society/ Language A Summer Project

Objective: Scholars will read Salt by Mark Kurlansky, annotate and comment on their reading, and reflect through journal entries.

Expectation: Scholars will read Salt by Mark Kurlansky (ISBN: 978-0-14-200161-5). While reading the book scholars will annotate within the book, highlighting important information, words they do not know, and write their emotional response to what is written. After reading two chapters, scholars will write a reflection in their journal. Scholar’s reflection should 1) Identify the main idea of the two chapters, 2) discuss what they found interesting within the chapter, and

3) describe their thoughts on the material they just read. Scholars are required to write thirteen reflections, however if you feel that you want to write more you are more than welcome to do so.

At the end of the assignment scholars should have a book that is completely annotated as well as at least thirteen separate annotations. Scholars are expected to have a completely annotated book as well as their reflection journal done before school starts.

Upon return to the start of the 2015-2016 school year scholars will also be assigned a summative paper as well as have an in class test. Any handwritten notes or reflections can be used to aide you on the paper and summative test in AP Human Geography.

This project will be graded using an IB rubric and will be counted your summative assignment.

The conversion chart below will be used to convert IB grade to Texas grade.
