CD Release Party and Concert at The C Gallery Oct. 3
The C Gallery in Los Alamos is preparing for “Fun. Faces. Folk Songs.,” an early evening, art-packed
event on Saturday, October 3, at 5 pm. The evening features singer/songwriter, Lily Nathan on guitar
and vocals, accompanied by keyboard artist, Nate Maurer. The walls will highlight a Pop-Up Small
Portraits show by painter, Zoe Nathan. The whole Santa Ynez Valley Nathan Family is an art family, with
Sandra Nathan, Mother, a noted writer. “I have had the great pleasure of teaching, and later working
with and hiring these accomplished artists. It’s been a twenty year art relationship, with so many fond
memories of their youth,” says Gallery Director, Connie Rohde
“Fun. Faces. Folk Songs” begins in the backyard of The
C Gallery with a Bean Bag Toss competition
with prizes, while on-lookers enjoy complimentary wines and cheeses and homemade breads.
Introducing the concert setting, a brief artist’s talk by sister, Zoe Nathan will provide the background for
her small sized portraits. The seated Folk Concert follows, and will feature selections from Lily’s newly
released CD, “Away.” The C Gallery will mark this musical celebration with champagne.
The artists presenting their talents are powerfully accomplished. Lily Nathan has been playing guitar for
twenty years, and has studied classical voice, as well as Flamenco guitar. She is both a poet and a visual
artist, having offered public poetry readings, and sold several of her paintings at The C Gallery. Her
guitar playing and vocals resemble the passion and expressiveness of Odetta, and Joan Baez, and the
eerie folk music of Brandi Carlile. Currently, Lily practices as a Marriage and Family Therapist intern,
having earned her Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology from Antioch College in Santa Barbara.
Keyboard accompanist, Nate Mauer, now thirty-something, has been earning his living as a musician
since he was 16. He has served as faculty pianist for Lee Strasberg Theater and Film Institute, and was a
visiting artist at UCLA. He has toured extensively in Europe with the internationally celebrated baritone,
Vladmir Chernov. In Santa Barbara, Nate currently works as an adjunct faculty at Santa Barbara City
College, and regularly performs in Santa Barbara with Santa Barbara Strings, Treble Clef Women’s
Chorus, and the Inner Light Gospel Choir. The C Gallery is honored to showcase him in the “Fun. Faces.
Folk Songs” concert on Oct. 3rd.
Artist, Zoe Nathan, is also a multi-talented artist. Zoe not only studies classical voice, but works in film,
photography, and sculpture. She is a consummate painter, of the romantic realist tradition. Zoe’s
paintings delve into the realm of introspection. In her current work she investigates the subtle formation
of the identity and emotional landscape of her subjects, as well as the beauty of classical painting in
portraiture. Zoe has shown widely throughout Santa Barbara County, including Sullivan Goss Gallery,
Elverhoj Museum in Solvang, and The C Gallery in Los Alamos.
The event will be a heartfelt and intimate concert, enhanced by fine art exhibits. The Carol Carbine
“What Color is a Cloud?” art show will be on display on the walls, paired with Albert McCurdy’s
sculptures. The ticketed event is $19/per or $35/couple Tickets and seating are limited to 36. For more
