We are an independent charity that works with the travel and tourism industry towards a sustainable future, both for the industry and holiday destinations, enabling travel companies to help protect the environment and create opportunities for local people in tourism destinations.
We promote sustainable tourism and support travel companies to integrate greener practices into their businesses, encouraging collaboration with tourism authorities, NGOs and local communities in destinations for the benefit of local people and the environment.
We set up projects in tourism destinations that demonstrate how organisations can make a difference for local people and the environment and turn what we learn from these projects into practical tools, training and business support to help travel companies adopt responsible practices.
At present we have established projects in Cyprus, Mexico, The Caribbean, Kenya, Turkey,
Cape Verde, France and Thailand, with developing interests elsewhere.

Industry Programme
The aim of our industry programme is to influence and enable travel companies both in the
UK and in destinations to integrate sustainable tourism into core business practices and customer communications to safeguard the destinations their customers enjoy. We do this in the following ways:-
Development of practical industry tools that travel companies can adapt and integrate into their business
Piloting industry tools with individual companies or destination authorities and producing detailed case studies with results of application
Delivery of sustainable tourism training both face to face and online
Forming industry links and promoting our tools and training through those links
Providing industry engagement through volunteer programmes and championship programmes

The Travel Foundation is based at the CREATE Centre on Bristol’s waterfront, a short stroll from the city’s vibrant harbourside development (see http://visitbristol.co.uk/site/home for more information on the region’s attractions).
Currently a team of sixteen, we are seeking to employ an Industry Programmes Officer to help manage and deliver our growing portfolio of industry programmes and tools. Working with the Industry Programmes Manager, the Industry Programmes Officer will be responsible for ensuring that our portfolio meets the organisation’s key aims and objectives.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Acting as account manager for industry partners to encourage industry engagement in TF initiatives and the implementation of TF tools. This includes developing, maintaining and tracking progress against bespoke action plans.
Working with the Industry Programmes Manager, Head of Partnerships and the communications team to develop a programme to promote partnership with TF and use of TF tools via the development and delivery of training to different groups of stakeholders.
Organising and delivering training with industry staff on the work of the Travel
Foundation, how to secure customer funding, sustainable champion’s programmes and relevant departmental training.
Working in conjunction with the Travel Foundation TUI Programmes Executive to manage Project Discovery (the TUI/TF volunteering programme).
Supporting the Industry Programmes Manager in the development of new and innovative staff engagement initiatives including industry volunteering to encourage new partnerships and collaborations.
Working with the Industry Programmes Manger and Head of Partnerships to develop opportunities for tourist board engagement, sponsorship and project pilots.
Project management of ‘industry’ projects in UK and overseas destinations including managing consultant relationships.
Working with the Industry Programmes Manager and the Travel Foundation communications team to involve the industry in the promotion of ‘Make Holidays
Greener’ consumer campaign.
Maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of developments in sustainable tourism, including compiling reports and other resource materials to help inform the future development of programmes.
Input into communications materials produced by the Foundation e.g. press releases, newsletters, website, to ensure programmes information is up to date.
Managing and evaluating the Travel Foundation industry database, monitoring tool use, and training delivered and responding to individual queries.
Person Specification
The Industry Programmes Officer will be required to manage a diverse portfolio of activities at many different stages of development and delivery. This may range from designing a new training programme, working with the destination programmes team, taking the learnings from a project to create a new tool for industry use, putting together a concept note for a pilot project, to working with a new industry partner to design an internal staff engagement programme. It requires an enthusiasm for learning as well as the confidence to work outside your ‘comfort zone’.
The role involves engaging with industry personnel at all levels (from call centre staff to managing directors) and requires plenty of confidence, adaptability and sensitivity.
Critical analysis skills are fundamental to this role; the ability to quickly comprehend the task at hand, identify barriers and develop a clear and strategic plan to achieve successful outcomes. The ideal candidate should also be organised and methodical, in order to cope with the large and varied workload and keep on top of things at all times.
Creativity and a willingness to show initiative are also essential; coming up with new, exciting and stimulating ways to engage the industry in sustainability.
Working within a small and busy team, having a ‘can do’ attitude, and the ability to work with minimum supervision, while also being a team player, is important. The successful candidate will be expected to work to deadlines and prioritise their workload accordingly.
The job holder will be required to travel within the UK at least once a month and from time to time overseas travel will also be required.
Essential Requirements:-
2 to 3 years experience in a mainstream tourism industry
Excellent written communication skills with clear and concise reporting style
Excellent presentation skills
Ability to use initiative and work without supervision
Computer literacy in Word, PowerPoint, Excel & Outlook
Highly motivated and able to work effectively as part of a team
Desirable Requirements:-
Experience of developing and delivering training
Account management experience or experience in developing effective partnerships
Experience implementing sustainable tourism initiatives
Terms & Conditions of Employment
Salary: £25,000 - £28,000 per annum
Hours of Work: Full time at our office in Bristol – mostly within normal office hours although some evening and weekend work will be required, as well as occasional travel in the UK to meet with partners (mostly London, Luton, Manchester) and some overseas travel.
Annual Leave: 25 working days per annum, plus public holidays.
Probationary period: four months.
