New residential zones for Moonee Valley
Moonee Valley City Council last night endorsed a proposed approach for applying the State
Government’s new residential zones across Moonee Valley.
Moonee Valley Mayor Cr Jan Chantry said the proposed application of the new zones in Moonee Valley
will go on wide community consultation in March.
“The new residential zones will strengthen controls on the type of development that is allowed to occur
in our streets and neighbourhoods,” said Cr Chantry.
“This is has been a long and challenging process for Council, which has required significant
collaboration.”
“The proposed application of these zones will allow for new and emerging developments that Council
wants to lead and ensure we provide high quality residential neighbourhoods for future generations.”
“A detailed map and information on the new zones will be mailed to all residential property owners in
March, along with an extensive communications program across Moonee Valley to ensure our
community is kept informed.”
“For the first time Council has developed an interactive map which allows you to view which zone is
proposed for any residential property in Moonee Valley.”
“Our interactive map is designed to make understanding what impact this might have on your property
even easier,” added Cr Chantry.
Portfolio holder for Land Use Planning Cr Nicole Marshall said Council has chosen to use a process set
up by the Minister for Planning for the implementation of the new residential zones.
“It is very important that the community provide feedback on the proposed new residential zones to the
State Government’s Standing Advisory Committee and not directly to Council,” said Cr Marshall.
“Council is holding information sessions in early April to explain the new residential zones and to
provide information to assist the community in making a submission.”
“We encourage the community to review the proposed roll-out of the new residential zones in Moonee
Valley and to make a submission by Thursday, 17 April,” added Cr Marshall.
Three new residential zones – Residential Growth Zone, General Residential Zone and Neighbourhood
Residential Zone – were introduced by the Minister for Planning to replace the existing Residential
Zone 1.
Details on the proposed roll-out of the zones, along with an interactive map and details on how to make
a submission, will be available on our website at mvcc.vic.gov.au/newzones in March.
