Courses list Yuhai social and urban space Professor of Sociology Research Fellow, Nordic Centre at Fudan University Yu Hai is a Professor of Sociology and Research Fellow of the Nordic Centre at Fudan University. Professor Yu’s research has a clear focus on preserving the local culture and wisdom. His research also covers the fields of history of Western social thoughts, urban sociology, and study of community and volunteer organizations. He is the recipient of 1st Class Award by Chinese Ministry of Education for his book titled History of Western Sociological Thoughts (1995), Best Course Award by Chinese Central Government(2002) and Shanghai Municipal Government(2001), Shanghai Excellent Course (2006). Course of Development Studies was awarded as Model Course of Bilingual Teaching by Chinese Ministry of Education (2009). Yu Hai has an MA in Philosophy from Fudan University. Zhangli urban and regional development Professor of Urban studies and Development Zhang Li (Ph.D., University of Washington-Seattle) is a Professor of Urban studies and Development at Fudan University. His research interests are China’s urban and regional development, political economy of migration and urbanization, urban social geography, and migrant housing. He authored an academic book in English, co-authored three books in English, and published more than forty peer-reviewed journal articles. His journal papers have been cited more than 500 times according to SSCI. Dr. Zhang led or participated in the projects funded by international organizations and foundations and was invited to give talks and presentations on the international conferences a number of times. He has been invited as an external reviewer to assess manuscripts submitted to a dozen of prominent international journals. He Serves as Deputy Director of Institute of Population Research (IPR), Vice Director and General Secretary of Fudan University Yangtze River Delta Institute, and Vice Director of Center for Urban and Regional Studies (CURS) of Fudan University. He specializes in urban studies and demography, and conducted several researches and published on a wide range of topics that include population and development, employment and labor market, urbanization and rural-urban migration, industrial cluster and regional economy, global city and global-local nexus, environment and urban sustainability, urban affairs and public policies, climate change and coastal urban development, and so on with a primary focus on China, especially in and around Shanghai Area. Sunjiaming Global cities Professor of Sociology Jiaming Sun, (Ph.D. in Sociology, University of Illinois at Chicago) , Professor in the Department of Sociology, School of Social Development and Public Policy, Fudan University. His research areas are globalization, urban study, civil society, youth problem, and consumption culture, etc. He has published books such as "Global Connectivity and Local Transformation," "Global Sociology: Analysis of Transnational Phenomena," "Generation Gaps: The Background of Transition Period 1991-1994" (in Chinese), and more than sixty papers in both English and Chinese in journals such as Environment and Planning A, Journal of Social Sciences, Journal of International Consumer Marketing, Journal of Urban Health, and China: An International Journal in the United States, the United Kingdom, Singapore, Taiwan, and China over the last twenty seven years. He taught courses such as, urban sociology, global sociology, social inequality, sociology of Internet, research methods, and social statistics, etc. in United States and China. Dr. Sun received a tenured faculty position in Texas A&M University-Commerce, USA, in 2011. Pengxizhe environment and urban development Professor of Population and Development Director, State Innovative Institute for Public Management and Public Policy Studies, Fudan University Director, Institute of Social Research, Fudan University Peng Xizhe (Ph.D., London School of Economics and Political Sciences) is a Professor of Population and Development at Fudan University. He is currently the Director of the State Innovative Institute for Public Management and Public Policy Studies, Fudan University, and also in charge of the establishment of Fudan’s data center (The Institute of Social Research). Dr. Peng’s research areas include population dynamics and policy, social welfare and social policy, sustainable development, and gender studies. Zhangyina regional city development Assistant Professor of urban studies and population Zhang Yina (Ph.D. in Population, resources and environmental economics, Fudan University, 2008) is currently an Assistant Professor of urban studies and population at Fudan University. Her research areas are urban and regional economy, population migration and urbanization, and application and development of geographic information system (GIS). Lecture series Wang Feng Wang Feng (Ph.D. in Sociology, University of Michigan) is the Director of Brookings-Tsinghua Center, and a Senior Fellow of Foreign Policy, Global Economy and Development of John L. Thornton China Center. He is also a Professor of Sociology at the University of California, Irvine (on leave). Professor Wang’s main research areas include population and economics, social inequality, and historical comparative demography. He has conducted research at the East West Center and taught at the University of Hawaii. Professor Wang’s main publications include One Quarter of Humanity, Malthusian Mythology and Chinese Realities, 1700-2000 (Harvard University Press 1999) and Boundaries and Categories, Rising Inequality in Post-Socialist Urban China (Stanford University Press, 2008). Chen Xiangming Chen Xiangming (Ph.D. Duke) is founding Dean and Director of the Center for Urban and Global Studies and Paul E. Raether Distinguished Professor of Global Urban Studies and Sociology at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut, as well as Honorary Research Fellow at the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences and the Beijing Academy of Social Sciences. His articles have appeared in major urban studies and international social science journals and two dozen edited books. Chen has served on the board of trustees of the Alfred Herrhausen Society, the International Forum of Deutsche Bank, and the advisory board of the Urban Age project based at the London School of Economics. He has served as President of the North American Chinese Sociologists Association and on the Council for the Community and Urban Sociology Section of the American Sociological Association. Zuo Xuejin Zuo Xuejin(Ph.D. University of Pittsburgh) is executive vice president and senior research fellow at the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences. His main research areas are population economics, population migration and urbanization, labor and employment. Ding Jinhong DingJinhong is Dean of the social development in East China Normal University and the professor of Institute of Population. His main research areas are population migration, urbanization, and human geography. Ning Yuemin Ning Yuemin is professor of Institute of Geography of North America in Western Europe East in China Normal University and director of the center for modern Chinese city studies. His main research areas are urban geography, urban economy and urban planning.
