Throughout this year, CNM will be celebrating 50 years of serving central New Mexico with exceptional community college opportunities and a unique culture focused on helping students improve their lives through education The first of the Spring Term STEMinars, with a focus on STEM-H, will occur this Wednesday, February 11, 6-7 p.m., SB 100. Michael Riley, a local engineer, will speak on “Fuel Cells, Batteries, and Related Energy Systems,” a topic that integrates chemistry, math, and engineering. Encourage your students to attend, considering some extra credit or other ways to make the STEMinar count in your classes. A new and free CNM mobile app has been launched and is now available through the Apple App Store and Google Play. The app provides quick-and-easy mobile access to CNM’s Course Catalog and Schedule of Classes, Campus Maps, Libraries, CNM Learn, Computer Lab Maps, a Directory for faculty and staff, and more. Curriculog will be able to integrate with our catalog system, Acalog, smoothly as they are based in the same company. The Curriculog Implementation Team has completed training and we are now in the consultation phase. Training for users according to role will take place in April. Users will receive training dates in the near future. The CNM Governing Board approved revised or new policies in three areas at its Jan. 13 meeting. The myCNM platform is in the process of being upgraded to a newer version that will provide better integration with Banner, CNM Learn (formerly called Blackboard) and student email, as well as better browser compatibility and other upgraded features. There will also be a redesign of the look and feel of the new myCNM, which will lead to some reorganization of information and the location of links. More information about the changes within myCNM will be available as the launch date gets closer. Launch is scheduled for Feb. 22. Faculty members who use the “Course Studio” function that is accessed from the myCourses section of myCNM will need to move any content in Course Studio that they will need for the Spring Term to CNM Learn (Blackboard). Join CNM in welcoming high school students to CNM’s Main Campus for the “Make Your Mark” Career Technical Education Open House on Feb. 27. Volunteers will fill a number of positions ranging from tour guides to runners, and are essential to providing hundreds of Albuquerque-area high school students an inside look at CTE fields at CNM. During the day, students will tour the college, participate in hands-on activities and learn about the programs and resources CNM has to offer. February 16, 2015 will be the last non-instructional President’s Day. Classes will be held on President’s Day starting Spring 2016. For the second year in a row, CNM is going for green greatness by entering the RecycleMania Tournament alongside more than 390 colleges and universities from across the U.S. and Canada. The competition starts this week. Help score points for the college, and more importantly the planet, by dropping all of your recyclable waste into nearby recycle bins. Read more. John Bronisz As part of the College-wide Technology Project to Improve Security and Emergency Preparedness CNM is in the process of replacing older card readers installed on many doors throughout multiple campus locations. The replacement of existing card readers is expected to be completed before August 2015. The new card readers will be activated for use by the beginning of the Fall 2015 term. A specific date will be announced and instructions will be provided well in advance of activation. Once the new card readers are activated new ID Cards (or badges) will be required to access the rooms. The ID cards in use today will no longer function after the new card readers are activated. In order to facilitate a smooth transition the old employee ID cards will be replaced with new ID badges. The new ID badges will be printed this spring and will be delivered to the departments for distribution to employees before the end of the Spring 2015 term.
