For the Thursday before Fall 2014, the CTL is
partnering with Employee Training to create a
diverse menu of professional development and
training activities for CNM faculty and staff—
presented by our colleagues across the college—
including technology training, mindfulness
workshops, faculty and student support services
informational sessions, etc
August 22, 2014
As announced previously by President Winograd,
the college is moving its annual Convocation to the

the Faculty Senate to plan an activity for the
Academic Affairs breakout session.
January 16, 2015
The CTL is planning the 3rd Annual Conference on
Teaching and Learning at CNM for the Friday
before Spring 2015, where it will have less impact
on classes and other responsibilities of faculty and
staff.
Retention Rate: 100% Spring 86.8%
Success Rate: 91.5%
Spring 81.2%
Based on the success of the May Intersession, we are
starting to plan for the intersession between summer
and fall.
Dates? Monday, August 11th – August 22, 23, 24?
The IFD Scholarship is an opportunity for you to
share your most innovative and effective classroom
strategies. This program provides a one semester (1)
course release or project compensation to allow
faculty time to disseminate a proven instructional
strategy more widely—in the department, school,
and/or college.
One faculty member will be selected from each of
the 6 schools at CNM.
The deadline for submitting an application is
Friday June 27, 2014.

“Student Placement: To better support all UNM
students, and to provide incoming students with
credit-bearing courses rather than non-credit bearing
Introductory Studies courses, the manner in which
incoming students are placed in mathematics
and writing courses will change next academic
year. Specifically, the Core Writing Program in the
English Department will begin offering multiple
versions of English 101 in the Fall. Because of these
new offerings, ISE100 will no longer be
offered. Accelerated Composition (ENGL 110)
replaces the old English 101. Composition I & II
(ENGL 111 & 112) offer students a college-writing
curriculum that is “stretched” across two semesters.
Enhanced Composition (ENGL 113) augments the
curriculum with a weekly 1-hour studio/lab. Please
note that ENGL 110, 111/112, and 113 will be
treated as equivalent. Composition III (ENGL 120)
replaces the old English 102. For more information,
visit the English Department’s web page.
The new 2013-2014 CNM Fact Book is now
available online. To view the newest Fact Book

This summer, CNM will pilot a new “Software
Virtualization” Master Plan project that will
eventually allow students to access class-related
software from any location or device. Read more.
LouAnne Lundgren has been named the dean of
CNM’s School of Adult & General Education
(SAGE). She served as Interim Dean of the school
for the past year. Read more.
BlackBoard has been reborn as CNM Learn.
Everything remains the same except the name. In the
past, BlackBoard has been used primarily by
distance learning students. However, BlackBoard,
now CNM Learn, is not just for distance learning.
CNM Learn is a great resource for all instructors and
students at CNM, and the college is encouraging its
use. Students can chat with fellow classmates,
submit homework directly to their instructors, view
grades and access the libraries. It can help
instructors stay organized and allows them to upload
all course materials, including syllabi, which saves
time and paper. It also helps them keep track of
grades in their CNM Learn courses. Instructors can
upload tests and quizzes and even receive email via
CNM Learn instead of using a personal account.

08/22
The 2014 CNM Convocation schedule has been set.
Rather than having lunch together as in years past, at
this year’s Convocation employees will join together
for breakfast at 8 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 22. Here’s
the rest of the Convocation schedule:
 8:45-10:45 a.m. – Convocation program.
 10:45 a.m.-noon – The Academic Affairs
Division, the Finance and Operations
Division and the President’s Division will
meet separately for division breakout
sessions. The Student Services Division will
return to work to serve students preparing for
the Fall Term. Student Services will have a
breakout session at a later date.
 12:30 p.m. – All CNM employees return to
work.
As part of the revamped New Student Orientation
process, new students will see a “10 Habits of
Successful Students” video created by Media
Production Services. The concepts in the video
provide the framework for New Student Orientation.
Check out the video.
A new Action Project team will begin working on an
improved and comprehensive approach to
processing feedback (compliments and complaints)
at the college. The team is seeking faculty
participation. If you are interested in serving on this
important improvement project, please contact
Juliane Ziter at jziter@cnm.edu.
