Departments and schools across CNM are in the process
of receiving an Employee ID Badge Distribution packet.
Instructions for distributing the badges, as well as a
Statement of Responsibility that employees must sign
before taking possession of the new ID badge, will be
included in the packets. The multi-phase Access Control
Project is in the process of implementing technology to
improve college safety and security, and emergency
preparedness. Select doors across the college (ones
currently with slide-card readers) are being prepared for a
new door lock and ID card-reader system that will go live
Aug. 17. Badges can be distributed any time after they
are received. Current ID badges that are used by
employees to open slide-card door locks will not work
after Aug. 17. Read more about the project.
CNM is committed to providing a healthy environment in
which to learn, work and visit. Therefore, smoking and
the use of tobacco-related products of any kind, including
e-cigarettes, are prohibited on all CNM campuses, except
in clearly-marked designated smoking areas. Designated
smoking areas are identified by signs and markings on
the sidewalk/pavement and can be found on these
campus maps, including new locations on Main Campus
due to construction. There are designated smoking areas
at all CNM locations.
CNM’s Native American Task Team are seeking 15
volunteers to help with the “Honor Your Heritage” 5K
Fun Run and 1 Mile Walk on Sunday, June 14. The event
will take place at Montoya Campus. Volunteers will
assist with registration, mid-race and post-race
refreshments, and event assignments. Volunteers must be
18 years of age or older. If you are interested in
volunteering, contact Dee Bluehorse at
dbluehorse@cnm.edu, or call 224-4000, ext. 51292. A
mandatory meeting for all volunteers is set for Thursday,
June 11, from 4-5 p.m. on Main Campus in the Student
Services Center, Room 205.
As part of their New Student Orientation experience, new
CNM students will be encouraged to “Be Curious” as
they set off on their journey through their first year of
college. To spark some curiosity, faculty members are
encouraged to share a 15-20 minute TED-type talk
during the sessions. One faculty talk will be presented
per session, and there are 16 sessions scheduled
throughout the summer for Fall Term incoming
freshmen. Click here for more information and to view a
schedule of available orientations.

On Tuesday, the CNM Governing Board approved a new
Domestic Abuse Leave policy that is effective
immediately. The new policy allows an employee to take
up to 14 days of unpaid domestic abuse leave, on an
intermittent basis, for up to eight hours in one day. The
leave may be taken in order for the employee to meet
with law enforcement officials, consult with attorneys or
victim advocates, or to attend court proceedings related
to the domestic abuse of the employee, a minor child of
the employee, or a person for whom the employee is a
legal guardian in accordance with state law. For more
information on the new policy, see Section 8.21 in the
Employee Handbook, or call Human Resources at 2244600.
Parking will be tight this summer near Max Salazar Hall
(MS) and Student Services Center (SSC) during a major
construction project that will get underway May 8. But
the end result – a beautiful latticed canopy-covered
walkway extending from University Blvd. and ending in
a student-friendly entrance to the buildings – will be
worth the wait, says Marvin Martinez, facilities project
manager. Read more.
