Work in the area behind Smith Brasher Hall along Roosevelt Park on the western boundary of the campus will continue through Oct. 19. Excavation will begin this week at the corner of Coal Ave. and University Blvd. near Smith Brasher Hall. See map for more details. If you need to make changes to your health care benefits or enroll in a flexible spending account, the Open/Switch Enrollment period will take place from Oct. 15 through Nov. 15. To summarize and relate to Central New Mexico Community College, the placements and guidelines proposed are: English and Reading-ELA/literacy Level 4 or 5 at grade 11, no placement test required and student is eligible for English 1101, and meets the IRW 0980 (currently English 0950 and Reading 0950) prerequisite requirements for all other courses. ELA/literacy Level 3 or below, college placement test is required. Mathematics-Algebra II or Mathematics III Level 4 or 5, student is eligible for Math 1110, Math 1315, Math 1320 and Math 1330, and meets the Math 1310 prerequisite requirement for all other courses. Students wishing to take classes above the level of Math 1330 are required to take the placement test. This is strongly recommended for students at Level 5 on the Algebra II or Mathematics III PARCC. Updates on Food Service in Sun Catfés at Main, Montoya and Westside Chris Cavazos The Sun Catfés are now open and offering a variety of food items. There are a number of snacks, including nachos (currently only available at Montoya and Westside), pastries, ice cream, cookies, and an assortment of chips and crackers from Frito-Lay to Keebler. For those looking for healthier fare, there is also fresh fruit and fruit cups, Greek yogurt, and a variety of healthy snacks such as Stacy’s Pita chips, Kashi Hummus crisps, and several types of nuts and sunflower seeds. In addition to snacks, the Sun Catfés are also offering hot and cold foods. An assortment of hot Villalobos burritos are currently offered at Main and Montoya campuses, and will be coming soon to Westside Campus. Fresh subs and salads from local Dion’s locations are also available at all of the Sun Catfés daily starting at 10:30 a.m. Starting Sept. 28, pulled pork sandwiches will be available from the Whole Hog Café. Through discussion and hands-on exercise, the workshop will highlight how to use ESL strategies modeled after the Guided Language Acquisition Development (GLAD) teaching method. Read more. Montoya Campus TRIO Office Expected to Open in Early November Magda Martinez CNM will be opening a new TRIO Student Support Services office at the Montoya Campus in early November. It will become the second TRIO office at CNM – the other has been at Main Campus since 2001. The new Montoya location was made possible by a grant award from the U.S. Department of Education. Federal TRIO program grants run on five-year grant cycles. TRIO serves low-income, disabled and/or first-generation college students who are determined to succeed in college, graduate and transfer to a four-year university. TRIO Student Support Services at Montoya campus will include: academic, career and personal coaching; one-on-one tutoring in math, biology and chemistry; college success workshops and educational activities and events; student leadership opportunities; networking and community support from people with similar goals.
