Westbury High School 11911 Chimney Rock • Houston, TX 77035 • (713) 723-6015 • (713) 726-2165 – fax Susan Monaghan ~ Principal Prom Guidelines & Dress Code Westbury High School Prom will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2016, from 8:00 PM to 12:00 Midnight at Crown Plaza, 8686 Kirby Drive, Houston, Texas 77054. Westbury Seniors and their dates are required to abide by all guidelines outlined in this document. 1. All students attending prom must present their current school or Texas Identification at the door and keep it in their possession at all times. No admittance without an ID. 2. Students being escorted by dates that are non-Westbury students must bring a copy of their dates ID to Ms. E. Bradley by Friday, April 29, 2016. Only students who are on the approved list will be admitted. No exchange of tickets allowed. No guest over 21 years of age will be admitted. 3. All students attending prom must be in the ballroom at the Crown Plaza by 10:00 PM on Saturday, May 14, 2016. 4. There is a no re-entry policy for prom. Once students or guests leave they may not return. 5. Students who are late or dressed inappropriately will not be admitted to prom and no refunds will be issued. This is a formal occasion and students are expected to dress accordingly. Anyone deemed inappropriate by administrators on duty will be denied admittance. 6. Students may not bring backpacks or large purses to prom. A check in station will be available for attendants to check in small purses or coats. 7. Students need to allow extra time for parking and other emergencies to ensure that you and your guest arrive on time. 8. Students are required to demonstrate appropriate behavior and respect for others at all times, both on the dance floor and in all designated areas. 9. Students are to refrain from physical contact or dance styles that are sexually explicit in nature. (Administration has the final decision.) 10. Students who do not abide by these standards will be asked to leave the prom and no refund will be given. Parents/guardians will be contacted regarding their dismissal from the event. 11. Students attending prom must meet the following discipline eligibility requirements: a. Misconduct at school sponsored activity i. If a student is suspended for possession, consumption, and/or being under the influence of alcohol or a controlled dangerous substance at a school-sponsored activity, s/he will not be permitted to attend the Dance/Prom. b. Disciplinary eligibility i. The following disciplinary actions taken against a student will keep that student from attending prom: 1. Any single out-of-school suspension that totals more than 5 days. 2. Two out-of-school suspensions. 3. Out-of-school suspensions and in-school suspensions that amount to four incidences. 4. Two truancies, as defined by the attendance policy in the student handbook. 12. Students and guests are expected to obey the HISD Code of Conduct for all school sponsored events. Students and guests who are suspected of alcohol or drug consumption or possession, weapon possession other violations of the HISD code of conduct before, during, or after any school-sponsored event will be: a. Detained and a parent or guardian contacted; b. Removed from the prom; c. Restricted from other future school sponsored events; i. Graduating seniors will lose the privilege of participating in the commencement ceremony and remaining senior activities. ii. Westbury underclassmen will lose the privilege of attending any school-sponsored events for one calendar year. d. HISD police officers will be present. Bradley (C123 or C124) by Friday, April 29, 2016. Prom Dress Code Female Attendants Females will wear semi-formal attire or formal gowns or pantsuits. Strapless and spaghetti straps will be permitted. Dresses are to be no more than 2 inches above the knee (front and back). This also applies to slits in dresses. Dress must also be at the appropriate length even if leggings are worn underneath the dress. Dress may not be extremely low-cut in the front or back. o The front of the dress must not fall below the bra line. o The back of the dress must not fall below the waist. Male Attendants Males are encouraged to wear a suit or sports coat, but at a minimum, they are expected to wear semiformal wear, such as slacks, nice shoes, and a nice shirt. Torn clothing will not be permitted. Ties are encouraged, but not required. All male attendants must be clean-shaven. The following will not be permitted: Dresses with revealing cut-outs. See-though gowns, including sheer/mesh overlays that do not have material underneath. Shorts Torn clothing All Students If the attire is questionable, students are encouraged to show their evening wear to an administrator beforehand to determine if it is dance appropriate. The determination of the appropriateness of student dress and grooming shall rest with Mrs. Weston, Dr. Thompson and Ms. Bradley. A copy of attendant’s approved dress attire must be attached to this application. Non-compliant students and their dates will not be admitted to the dance.
