Kingdom Research Project
Objective: Research and determine the characteristics of one of the six kingdoms of life. In
addition, research a specific class of organisms within the kingdom and analyze one
cladogram/phylogenetic tree for a species within the kingdom.
Procedure:
1. Determine the kingdom you will research, based on your teacher’s instruction.
2. For your assigned kingdom, find all of the following:
a. Type of cell (prokaryote or eukaryote)
b. Number of cells (unicellular/multicellular)
c. Cell wall (present or not present)—if present, what is the cell wall made of?
d. Type of nutrition (autotroph or heterotroph). Provide details.
e. Type of reproduction (asexual, sexual, or both). Provide details.
f. At least four examples of specific species within this kingdom (Include a graphic of at
least two.).
3. For your assigned kingdom, select one class within this kingdom and find all of the
following:
a. Special characteristics of organisms within this class
b. At least two examples of specific species within this class, and include the following:
i. Name of specific species
ii. Picture of specific species
c. One example cladogram/phylogenetic tree for a species within this class.
i. Provide the example of the cladogram/phylogenetic tree.
ii. Analyze the cladogram, and determine the organism that this species is
most closely related and most distantly related to.
4. Present the research material in one of the following formats:
