Spring Semester After School Clubs 2016
MONDAY CLUBS WILL RUN ON: 2/1, 2/22, 2/29, 3/7, 3/14, 3/21, 4/18, 4/25, 5/2, 5/9, 5/16, 5/23,

Chess (Beginners), Grade K-5, ICA Instructor, $215
Learn the ABC's of chess from an International Chess Academy specialist! This semester learn the rules of the game, basic
strategy, check mate concept and basic end-of-game principles. For experienced players, build upon your knowledge by
learning basic tactical devices, simple combination tactics, as well as end-of-game positions. Participants will also have the
opportunity to compete in a tournament.
Cheerleading, Grades 1-5, Ms. Coleman & Ms. Vilardi, $205
Do you like to have fun with your friends while keeping fit? Do you want to learn new cool dance moves? Come cheer for
Smith School and show your school pride! Begin each club with a warm up/stretching session and by the end of the
semester students will learn a full length dance routine suitable for their age/ability along with school spirit cheers. Each
student will receive a pair of pom-poms or a T-shirt to be used/worn during every club.
Creative Crafts, Grades K-3, Ms. Levine, $205
Let’s be creative! Come and join us in making a variety of creative crafts. We will work on Winter and Spring as well as
Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day projects.
Bricks 4 Kids, Grades 1-4, Bricks 4 Kids Instructor, $225
Each week, we will explore architecture, engineering and technology concepts using Lego bricks. Students participate in
weekly sessions focused on exciting themes. We will have 1 week of S.T.E.M Science and 1 week of S.T.E.M Math.
Instructors provide a 5-10 minute themed lesson and then students build the model of the day with simple step by step
instructions.

Sports Of All Sorts, Grades 1-5, Mr. McIntosh & Ms. Griffin, $185
Join Mr. McIntosh and Ms. Griffin in the gym for fun, exciting games including Kickball/Whiffleball, Kingpin, Dodgeball,
Team Handball and Jail. New games are introduced each session, so there is something for everyone! Sneakers required.
Advanced Computer Club, Grades 3-5, Ms. Griffiths, $185
Are you interested in creating a unique movie, digital comic strip or eBook? Would you like to learn more about Movie
Maker, Photo story, Animoto, PowerPoint or Comix? Or are you interested in learning how to CODE? If so, this club is for
you! In this club, you will have the opportunity to create unique projects using programs on the iPad, computer, or laptop.
Spanish Language and Culture, Grades 3-5, Ms. deCastro, $195
Children will sing chants to popular songs, which teach vocabulary, short dialogues and popular children’s rhymes. We will
also create mini booklets, which children can take home to read to themselves and others. Finally, the children will take part
in short role plays to practice meaningful language structures.
Cool Crafts, Grades K-3, Ms. Parikos, $200
Do you like arts and crafts? Join this club to learn, have fun, and be creative. We will be making a variety of projects that
you will treasure forever! Come and show your creative side.
Fun with Math and Science, Grades K-2, Team Makers, $210
Each week the children will learn about Math and Science they use every day and then do FUN activities that build their
skills in these areas – all while working together. Some weeks are cooking/blending weeks where we will make food and
drinks learning how to measure and mix ingredients. Other weeks we will play sports games and learn how statistics and
dimensions change the games and have the children play them in different ways to understand how changes in these areas
affect game play. In even other weeks, we will build structures and use our Math and Science skills to properly erect them
and then play games with them. All materials will be provided by Team Makers. Children will learn Math and Science while
also developing their reasoning and critical thinking skills- all while having FUN each week.

WEDNESDAY CLUBS WILL RUN ON: 2/3, 2/10, 2/24, 3/2, 3/9, 3/16, 3/23, 4/6, 4/20, 4/27, 5/4, 5/11,

Volleyball, Grades 3-5, Ms. Griffin, $185
Come join Mrs. Griffin in the gym to learn everything about the fun game of volleyball. Mrs. Griffin has coached volleyball
for many years at the HS varsity level and has had many championship teams. You will learn all the skills you need including
the bump pass, set pass, underhand and overhand serves and spiking, along with blocking. The second half of each session
will be playing games. The balls used are softer than real volleyballs, so no ones’ arms will hurt!
Yoga for Kids, Grades K-3, Ms. Lucibello, $185
This yoga club is designed to explore the basics of yoga including poses, breathing and connecting poses and breath in a safe
and fun way. Discussions on keeping our bodies healthy by fueling them with good food choices will be a part of each yoga
session. Students can learn from a young age to keep their bodies strong and flexible as well as learn how to use their breath
to help feel more relaxed and focused. Research shows that yoga can help kids make better choice and listen with better
attention. Please bring a yoga mat!
Feature Foods, Grades K-3, Ms. Chimento $210
Do you like to be creative with food and enjoy movies? Well, this is the club for you! Students will prepare snacks that are
based on and LOOK LIKE their favorite movie characters and movie themes. Students will have fun learning about food
preparation, food presentation and food design. After we create our delicious snack, students spend the last few minutes of
class enjoying their snack while watching the movie of the day! At the end of class, each student will get a recipe card so
that they can make the snacks again at home.
Get Hooked On Latch Hook, Grades 1-5, Ms. Levine, $205
Have fun while learning how to latch hook! Come and join us in creating a pillow or wall hanging (i.e. puppies, kittens,
frogs, rainbows, smiley faces, sports, etc.) by "hooking" short pieces of yarn into a canvas. You'll learn how to "hook" and
follow a pattern while having fun with your friends! Fun for boys and girls!

Basketball, Grades 1-3, CMEK Instructor, $320
Join your friends and come learn and play basketball. This club is designed for anyone who loves basketball or wants to get
started learning fundamental basketball skills. We will work on basketball skills, have basketball related fitness exercises
and organized games. We focus on individual skill development within a comfortable environment in which each player is
placed in an age/skill appropriate group.
Cartooning, Grades K-2 , Mr. Castellano, $200
Did you ever want to create a superhero or design your very own trading card set? Tune into Cartooning club where you are
in control of your creativity! Students will use a variety of 2D media such as pencil, colored pencil, pastel, marker, and collage
materials. Students can be expected to create a logo design using their initials, google doodle design, trading cards, a comic
strip, an original cartoon character, and a superhero/ heroine.
Karate, Grades K-5, Shukokai, Ms. Cathy Blake, $245 (+ $25 for uniform)
Join this satellite program of Tenafly Shukokai Karate. Students will learn basic punches, kicks, blocks, and kata (forms). At
the end of the semester students will be tested for promotion. Karate enhances physical abilities – balance, coordination and
flexibility. It also develops character, humility, confidence, self-esteem and patience. Uniforms required and can be
purchased at time of registration.
3D Printing and You!, Grades 3-5, Ms. Hernandez, $200
In this club, you will have the opportunity to solve real world problems, design solutions and create 3-dimensional objects. 
Depending on your interest, you might invent a new Minecraft mob/creature, design a new iTouch or iPad stand or design a
new superhero, My Little Pony or Shopkins character.  As part of this club, you will be focusing on a variety of S.T.E.M
(science, technology, engineering and math) skills.  By the end of this club, you will understand how to properly use the
Tinkercad software and have printed two of your own creations.
Aqua and Hydroponics, Grades 4-5, Ms. Adams, $205 **SPECIAL NOTE: MORNINGS from 7:25-8:30**
As a group, we will plan, design and create our own aqua or hydroponic system. Each student will research, create and execute
his/her own experiment. We will learn about and use real scientific tools and procedures such as pH monitoring, and
vitamin/mineral tests. This club is structured as independent study. This will be a MORNING CLUB from 7:25-8:30.

Soccer, Grades K-3, Mr. Soumare, $195
Come out and play with your friends after school! Have fun and learn new skills and techniques to help you become a better
soccer player. Led by Oumar Soumare of the JCC, this club will play indoors and outdoors. Shin guards required.
The Mad Side of Science, Grades 2-5, Mad Science, $200
Join us afterschool in the Mad Science club for some awesome hands on fun! Become a detective, an engineer, a chemist, a
film maker and more! Take apart the earth as you explore volcanoes, or become a toy maker as you explore the science of
toys! Create crazy cool concoctions in the kitchen as you cook up chemistry, and explore the human body as we learn what
makes us tick! Every week we explore a new and exciting topic and create something to take home! Let’s get Mad and Silly
with MAD SCIENCE!
