This year began last Thursday October 11, 2012, on the 50th. Anniversary of the opening of the Second Ecumenical Vatican Council, and will conclude on November 24, 2013, the Solemnity of our Lord Jesus Christ, Universal King. This year will be a propitious occasion for the faithful to understand more profoundly that the foundation of Christian faith is “the encounter with an event, a person, which gives life a new horizon and a decisive direction.” Founded on the encounter with the Risen Christ, faith can be rediscovered in its wholeness and all its splendor. “ In our days too faith is a gift to rediscover, to cultivate and to bear witness to” because the Lord “grants each one of us to live the beauty and joy of being Christian.” The beginning of the Year of Faith coincides with the anniversaries of the two great events which have marked the life of the Church in our days: the fiftieth anniversary of the opening of the Second Vatican Council, called by Blessed Pope John XXIII (October 11, 1962) and the twentieth year of the promulgation of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, given to the Church by Blesses Pope John Paul II (October 11, 1992). Archbishop Aymond has added “The Family” to the Year of Faith. It will be “The Year of the Family and Faith.” It will start January 1st. 2013 and conclude December 31, 2013. We will have celebrations here at Holy Spirit emphasizing the Family unit and the Faith. Our Family and our Faith are very important to us. The year will be a year of discernment for us where our family and our faith is concerned. Our Lord Jesus Christ is going to guide us during the year, as He does at all times, to look at our role within the family and to look at how we live our faith journey. If you or a member of your family have any ideas for celebrating the Year of the Family and Faith I will be delighted to hear them as we are on the same journey. May the Lord Bless you and the Family in His Love. This will take place at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church 8968 Hwy. 23, Belle Chasse, LA on Wednesday, October 17, 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. During this time together, participants will be invited to hear presentations on and to reflect on how we, at Mass, come together to “offer a worthy sacrifice of praise” to God around the tables of Word and Sacrament. There is no fee for this event and preregistration is not required. Come and hear, via both pre-recorded and live presentations, Bishop Shelton Fabre, Mrs. Alice Hughes and a member of the staff of the Office of Worship as they help you reflect more deeply on the Mass.
