First Reading: (Wisd. 2:12; 17-20) – Tells us that the life of a virtuous man is such an embarrassment to
the wicked that they must destroy him. The Gospel shows how this was true of Jesus.
Second Reading: (James 3: 16 – 4:3) – Assures us that we will experience peace, compassion and holiness
if we follow the wisdom of God. Jealousy, ambition and hatred will be the result if we follow merely
earthly wisdom.
The Gospel: (Mk. 9: 3-37) – Describes Jesus assuring his disciples that he will be put to death, and how
they failed to understand his message.
