Due to the nature of our specialities we have a wide range of ages, from newborn babies to 1819 year olds. Ward 85 is a busy and diverse ward where you will be able to develop skills and knowledge in a wide range of areas. On Ward 85 we aim to ensure that all learners are welcomed and provided with a safe and supportive learning environment. Each student will be provided with two named mentors to support their learning and development. Achievable and relevant goals will be identified, specific to each student’s needs. Support will be provided to ensure that these are achieved. Staff Locker room to safely store belongings, Staff Room where handover takes place and staff have their breaks. During a 7.5 hour shift you will be entitled to a 30 minute break. Early 07:30-15:30, Late 13:00-21:00, Long Day 07:3021:00, Night 20:30-08:00. Handover is taped by the staff finishing their shift and listened to as a group by the staff coming on duty. It will be possible for you to carry out your medication assessment as well as any other clinical assessments that you are required to complete during your placement There are a number of spoke placements available that link to the specialities on the ward and the patients that you will be caring for. There are several specialist Nurses who you can spend a day or two with and also ward based members of the MDT. 9 Teaching / Competency Packs Naso gastric feeding and naso gastric tube passing. Medications management is able to be completed on this Placement. Teaching folders containing presentations on a wide range of conditions and treatments.
