ROLLING CALL FOR PAPERS Imaginations accepts articles, reviews, and proposals in English and French on an ongoing basis. Depending on the language capacities of the editorial board at any given time, articles, reviews, and proposals in other languages are also welcome. Please review our editorial board members to see if we are currently accepting articles in other languages. Depending on our available funding and current language capabilities, Imaginations aims to publish in original languages and translate to either French or English. Imaginations invites several types of contributions on an ongoing basis: 1) Research articles (3000-6000 words with a minimum of 3 quality images); 2) Feature artist contribution with accompanying interview. (contents of online installation of feature artist’s work vary and are negotiable) 3) Comparative book review (1500-3000 words with a minimum of 2 quality images); 4) Reviews of art shows, performance pieces, installations, political events, and scholarly books—with visual cultural content (500 words with a minimum of 1 image, taken by the author if necessary). 1) Academic Articles: We welcome a wide-range of approaches and visual topics, coming from across the arts, humanities and social sciences. Potential contributions should innovatively reflect on the image. Points of departure could include new technologies, interactions between text and image, text as image, image and the self, dynamic and static images, omnipresence of screens (big and small), thinkers of the image, image across the disciplines and forms of thought (visuality, medicine, science, urban studies, political studies, gender studies, queer studies, etc.). Of critical importance is the inclusion of the images being discussed and explored, which will have an impact on the writing style and content. See our Author Guidelines in the “Why Submit” section (here) for more details. If you are interested in contributing a peer-reviewed scholarly article, please contact Imaginations’ Editor-in-Chief sheena.wilson@ualberta.ca, cc: imaginations@ualberta.ca 2) Featured Guest Artist and Artist Interview: Each issue of the journal features one artist. Imaginations provides online exhibition space for this artist’s work. The feature artist for each issue is also interviewed to better contextualize their artistic contribution(s) within the journal and relative to their larger body of work. If you are an artist who would like to be considered as the feature artist, please send sample work with some indication of what type of artistic contribution you would like to feature in the journal’s online format. If you are interested in conducting an interview with a specific artist, please send a Imaginations Journal 3-14 Pavillon Lacerte • Campus Saint-Jean • University of Alberta • Edmonton • Canada • T6C 4G9 Telephone: ph : 780-485-8628 (office) • Email : sheena.wilson@ualberta.ca proposal. All inquiries can be made to Editor-in-Chief sheena.wilson@ualberta.ca, CC: imaginations@ualberta.ca 3) Comparative Book Reviews: We are seeking, on an ongoing basis, comparative book review essays of 1500-3000. Contributions to this section of the journal should aim to contribute to a culture of sophisticated scholarly engagement with books on the image that allow writers and readers more space to delve into comparative theoretical and philosophical explorations of he image.. Something akin to a New York Times book review is what we have in mind. To view an example of the type of book reviews published by Imaginations, please see the article “Publish and Anguish: Reconsidering the Never-Ending Crisis of the Humanities” by Russell Cobb. The discussion and exploration of images, and the inclusion of high-quality images is key to successful submissions. See our Author Guidelines in the “Why Submit?” section (here) for more details. If you are interested in writing a peer-reviewed comparative book review article, please contact Imaginations’ Editor-in-Chief sheena.wilson@ualberta.ca, cc: cc: imaginations@ualberta.ca 4) Reviews to be published in Imaginations’ reviews section titled Elicitations Elicitations publishes short reviews of 500 words on visual art, visual performances, political events with a visual focus, and scholarly books addressing the visual from any disciplinary or interdisciplinary angle. The innovative discussion and exploration of images, and the inclusion of high-quality images is key to successful submissions. See our Author Guidelines in the “Why Submit?” section (here) for more details. For reviews of art shows, performances and other events, Imaginations prefers to accept high quality images taken by the author. This eliminates the issue of securing permissions and increasing the speed of publication. If you are interested in writing a short review on any event or publication, please contact Elicitations reviews editor Tara Milbrandt milbrand@ualberta.ca, cc: imaginations@ualberta.ca. NOTE: We accept papers in English and French on an ongoing basis. If the editorial board has the capacity at any given time to accept articles in other languages, we are also open to proposals. We can publish in original languages and translate to either French or English, depending on available funding.
