Social Studies Essay
United States geography is important to learn about. The Northeast region has major
landforms, vegetation, and land usage. Do you know what landforms appear in this interesting
region? Ten essential states, including New Jersey, are here. Together, they make up the
Northeast region.
To begin, there are mountains in this region. Part of the Appalachians run into the
Northeast region. Their peaks are not sharp anymore, and are instead worn down because of
erosion. The coastal plains go through here, too, as well as the Piedmont. Many bodies of
water are in the Northeast. The Hudson River is in this region. Additionally, two of the five
Great Lakes appear here, Lake Erie and Lake Ontario. Did you know that the states in the
Northeast region are right next to the Atlantic Ocean?
Furthermore, there are two climate zones. One climate zone is humid continental,
while the other one is humid subtropical. Together, they allow the Northeast to receive all four
seasons, winter, spring, summer, and fall. People here experience hot summers and cold
winters. Since these states are along the coast, ocean currents bring moderate temperatures
here. Plus, air currents bring moderate temperatures to the Northeast region. That helps it
get all of the seasons. Deciduous forests are mostly in this region, too. Some types of plants
include the American Beech and the Shagbark Hickory tree.
Then, in the Northeast region there are some major cities. Boston, Buffalo,
Philadelphia, and New York City cannot be forgotten! New York City is the most populated city
in the United States. Land here is used in different ways too. Lots of forestry and farming
occurs in this region, but most importantly manufacturing is here. Manufacturing is used
greatly in the Northeast region. Do you wonder how populated this region is? It is densly
populated due to all of the major cities.
Lastly, this region is unique and has some interesting facts. The big landforms,
vegetation, and land usage makes this region fun to learn about. The ten states here make up
this great place. They are right among the huge Atlantic Ocean. The Northeast region has
important geography to learn about.
