CONTESTANT LETTER/RULES AND REGULATIONS
Dear Potential Contestant,
Thank you for your interest in the 2016 Miss Elk City and Miss Queen of the West
Pageants. This year’s joint pageant will be held at 7:00 p.m., Saturday, November 14, 2015 at
the PIONEER CENTER, located on the campus of Elk City High School at 1221 North Pioneer
Road.
Pageant events will begin with an orientation and light dinner starting at 5:00 p.m.
Friday, November 13, 2015, with rehearsal immediately following. You MUST be here by
6:00 p.m. for dress rehearsal, NO EXCEPTIONS. You will receive the complete schedule at
the orientation, which will take place at the Pioneer Center as well. During the opening
number, all contestants must wear black slacks, leggings, or skinny jeans, with a black top
and black heels. No colored scarves, but you can wear pearls or any pearl jewelry you
choose. For the physical fitness portion of the pageant, you MUST bring a sarong to wear
with your swimsuit. Your talent selection must not exceed one minute and 30 seconds, which is
the same requirement as the Miss Oklahoma pageant. Contestants may be accompanied by
parent(s) and/or guardian(s) to the orientation and rehearsal, but NO BOYFRIENDS please.
Also, only contestants will be allowed into the Pioneer Center during interviews the morning of
the pageant.
Miss Elk City is for young women residing in Elk City or within a 30-mile radius
including all of Beckham and Roger Mills counties, Cordell, Leedey and Sentinel. Out of town
young women in this radius will have an option of competing in either the Miss Elk City or Miss
Queen of the West Pageant. Miss Queen of the West is OPEN STATEWIDE.
The purpose of the pageant is not only to produce winners but also to aid girls in the areas
of self-confidence, poise, interview skills and of course, the all-important scholarship money.
Cash and college scholarships will be given to the winners and runners-up in the pageants.
All entries must be received by Wednesday, November 4, 2015. Please return your entry
forms as soon as possible to reserve your spot as a contestant.
Contestants must donate their $100 to the Children’s Miracle Network PRIOR to
arriving for orientation. You may do so by going to www.missamerica.org and clicking on the
CMN fundraising meter at the bottom of the page. This action will open up a new window.
From here, click on the corresponding link on the right side of the page, whether you are a
returning contestant, or a new contestant. If you’re a returning contestant, you may login using
your username and password to make your donation. If you’re a new contestant, create a
username and password and add our pageant to your list of pageants. From there you should be
able to make your donation and it will be recorded in the system. However, it’s always a good
idea to print a receipt for proof of donation.
PLATFORM STATEMENT - Once you look at your forms, you will realize that each
contestant is to write about her platform (critical issue) pertaining to an issue of national interest.
Examples could include Breast Cancer Awareness, Adoption, Child Abuse, Homelessness, Care
and Attention of the Elderly, etc. Focus on that which you are passionate about or have an acute
interest in as the judges will ask questions regarding your platform and will expect you to be
knowledgeable. All documents that need to be completed are available on the pageant website.
Tickets are $15 and will be available at the door, or may also be purchased at The Vogue
in downtown Elk City.
We will also be offering congratulatory signature ads in the program to families, friends
and businesses wishing to support their favorite contestant. Please contact Lake Carpenter 580303-0090 for more information. These ads are completely optional, but should you want one,
they are due by Wednesday, November 4, 2015.
Please return your entry forms at the earliest possible date along with TWO color
photographs (either billfold size or 5x7, with one photo being a headshot).
PHOTOS, COMPLETED AND SIGNED APPLICATIONS, AND DOCUMENTS
MUST BE EMAILED to karen.blanton@dnow.com. The deadline for all documents is
November 4, 2015.
We are looking forward to seeing you and please, if you have any questions, do not
