Minutes of Eco Meeting
Wednesday 11th March 2015
Members Present: Sonia Buchanan, Debbie Clark, Jennifer Lindsay, Margaret
Mainland, Daniella O’Donnel, Ingrid Stormont, and member from Shaw Mhor
Nursery.
1. Litter in playground still giving cause for concern. Sonia has contacted
Clean Glasgow to enquire about Big Spring Clean in playground and local
area.
2. Ingrid and Margaret will zone the playground into areas for pupils to
Litter Pick.
3. Birds dip into bins and scatter rubbish. More bins with lids possibly
required.
4. Ideas to maintain a clean playground are issuing pupils with recycled
green bottle tops from milk cartons when they dispose of litter correctly.
Class with most bottle tops collected receives house points or extra play
time. Or… stickers issued by Eco Buddies when pupils use bins for rubbish
disposal.
5. Jennifer informed us of the work being carried out by Jan McDonald and
P5 classes. They will concentrate on Eco Garden as well as Mansewood
Allotments. They intend to create a Compost Area, Water Butt section,
more raised beds and complete a Greenhouse in the Eco Garden. Any class
wishing to have a raised bed to plant (edible plants only) should contact
Jennifer.
6. They will also tie up the Willow structures and Plant the Apple trees from
the upper balcony in the Eco Garden. Jan will also thin out the brambles
which are too close together.
7. A padlock will be put on Eco Garden gate and combination numbers given
to teachers only. There will be a garden shed placed in Eco Garden to
store garden equipment. All equipment must be returned there.
8. Debbie Clark and Sonia to hold next Eco meeting with pupils on Thursday
26th March at 12.30 in Conference Room.
9. The above information will be discussed with Eco Buddies who will then
report back to own class regarding issues raised. Please ensure you give
your Eco Buddy the opportunity to talk to the class.
