Despite the appalling weather which so many of us in the South West
and elsewhere in the country have been experiencing, the fact is that
the new cricket season is rapidly approaching. I am pleased to report
that the damage to the Maer Ground has been very limited (we have
lost our iconic flagpole to the storms and some guttering) and our
superb group of volunteers have been able to concentrate on the
programme of repairs and improvements which are highlighted in the
Club’s development proposals.
I am very pleased to let you know that the renovations to the Pavilion
are almost complete. These have provided a disabled toilet in the
former umpires’ room, new shower areas and an eco friendly boiler
system. The volunteers have taken on the task of re decoration to keep
costs down and all should be ready for the new season, but please, if
you can help, then let Brian Hall know.
The new nets will be officially opened on Monday 5 May and the Colts
will be able to practise with the aid of a new bowling machine under
the guidance of head coach Sandy Allen and new Colts Manager, Ben
Walters. We still have a problem with badger intrusion outside the nets
perimeter and are working closely with the District Council and English
Nature to reach an accommodation for all parties!!.......................
………………..Committee has also been busy over the winter months and has been joined by Bruce De Saram, (our new Treasurer),
Sue Hurley and Debbie Austin. Debbie is currently working hard to complete the documentation for the renewal of the Club’s
“Clubmark Accreditation Scheme”. Committee has also approved a new Bar B Que area complete with gas Bar B Que which we
hope will be well used. Jo Watson (Wood) has taken on the responsibility of running the Bar and the entertainments programme,
building on her vast experience in the hotel trade and together with Lucy Davies will be organising events at the Club. The web site
will show the new rates for a range of events including birthdays, celebrations and weddings so please use our superb facilities
whenever possible.
The Club has been very fortunate in bringing Tolchards Drinks on board as new main sponsors while CAP have agreed to continue to
support the Club in whatever way they can. We remain deeply indebted to all our sponsors and members who give so generously to
the Club.
On the playing front, the first team will be largely the same as last season. George Greenway has departed to Exeter but we hope to
perhaps one more signing in place before the season’s starts. The second and third XI’s have also recruited well and Lucy Burch will
be leading the Ladies XI.
Let us hope for another successful season right across the Club.
Richard Butler

Finlay Marks is currently away in South Africa on the Devon U15's tour. As a club we would like to wish him the very best
and hope he has a successful tour.

We also have five of our club first XI training with the senior Devon side, well done to David Lye, Trevor Anning, Sandy
Allen, Gary Chappell and Seb Benton.
We are now under two months until the first game at Exmouth CC and after all the horrendous weather the ground is
bearing up well. All the preseason preparations are well under way and we are all looking forward to an enjoyable and
successful season.
Winter nets have started at Exmouth Community College every Sunday. If you are interested in joining us on a Sunday
then please get hold of your team manager or team captain to let you know the sessions to attend.
As a club we currently have a lot of future developments on the horizon and in the pipeline, but these developments
require us to provide the funds and resources ourselves. If you are willing to help with fund raising events, have fund
raising ideas or and expertise whether it be as a tradesman or in advertising or sponsorship then please let Brian Hall the
Club Secretary know as all help is very much appreciated.

HERE’S MORE GOOD NEWS FOR MEMBERS
This season we are able to offer two tier bar pricing. All members who show their
membership card at the bar will receive a 10% discount.
We are pleased to report that renovations are nearing completion on the ground floor of the pavilion and
that we are now in possession of a toilet with disabled access. Not only has that but the changing rooms
have been upgraded to incorporate new showers with screening.
We are also undergoing reaccreditation for Clubmark status from ECB. This should be in place by the
start of the new season and ensures that Exmouth Cricket Club continues to operate at the highest level
in all areas.
Lastly Deborah Austin, Club Welfare Officer, has just completed a training workshop run devised by
the English Cricketing Board and delivered by Devon Cricket Board - it covers cricket’s policy for
safeguarding children. Should your children be returning Colts this season, you can be sure they are in
‘Safe Hands’.

away from the Clubhouse. The staircase must remain clear at all times.
