SESSION SIX GROUP WARM-UP 1. Think about when you were a kid. Talk a bit about the spiritual temperature of your home as you were growing up. How does it compare to your home today? OPEN IN PRAYER WATCH VIDEO SESSION SIX View the sixth session on the DVD provided or online at Timberlakechurch.com/Groups. DISCUSSION 2. We continue on with marriage and family therapist Brian Gere as he shares part two of his teaching on the developmental stages of children. This week we’re digging into the spiritual development of you, your kids and your family. Share briefly your own spiritual journey and where you are today in your relationship with God. 3. When it comes to your family, how do you see God’s hand at work? 4. Brian focuses in on Psalm 23. Re-read it together: The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Psalm 23 1 5. This Psalm is showing us the love care and nurture of the Shepherd - God - for his people! What part of that Psalm do you need most from God for yourself right now? How about for each of your own little “sheep”? 6. When we help our kids see who they are in God’s eyes and how valued they are by Him, it can change everything about how they go through life! Let’s look at some Scripture that can help with that. Each is re-written to be personalized. Read the passage and fill in the blank: I am one of God’s ___________ people, holy and dearly loved,....................................................... Colossians 3:12 For I am God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to _____ ____________ __________ ............... Ephesians 2:10 I am part of a chosen people, a royal _____________, a holy nation, God’s special possession ............ 1 Peter 2:9 I am firmly _________, built up, established in _______ and overflowing with thankfulness ......... Colossians 2:7 I can do all things through __________ who gives me strength ................................................................... Philippians 4:13 I have the peace of God that passes all ____________________ ..................................................................Philippians 4:7 I have all I need, for my God _______________ all of my needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus ............................................................................... Philippians 4:19 For God has not given me a spirit of ________; but of power, love, and a sound mind ..................... 2 Timothy 1:7 PRAY TOGETHER AND CLOSE 7. Pray together asking God to help you see your kids as He sees them. Ask for God to reveal that truth to your child’s heart as well! BRING IT HOME Each day this week find a scripture about God’s love and care for us. Share it with your kids creatively – maybe through a note in their lunchbox, whispering it in their ear as they fall asleep, writing it on their bathroom mirror… Read Psalm 23 each day and consider the care God has for you and your family. Watch for tangible ways He shows it this week. Brian Gere included a great bonus session on making bedtimes extra special for you and your kids. Watch that this week.
