LESSON PLANS ADV. SCIENCE WEEK OF OCT. 19TH-23RD Monday, Oct. 19th COS: 3a-Organization of the Human Body 6-Vairation within Species 8Chromosomes 8a-Genes and Genetic Traits 10-DNA and RNA Learning Target: I can name the molecules in DNA and RNA Bell Ringer: Students will name the molecules that make up DNA. Before: Teacher will go over the answers to the bell ringer and check for student understanding. During: Students will use their device, computer in classroom, or textbook to answer the following: 1). What molecules make up RNA ? 2). What is the definition of Mrna, Trna, Rrna ? 3). What is the definition of transcription ? 4). What is the definition of translation? 5). How are transcription and translation important to each other? 6). What is replication? After: Teacher will go over the answers to the questions students had to answer in class today. Assessment: questions answered in class today. Tuesday, Oct. 20th COS: 3a-Organization of the Human Body 6-Variation within Species 8Chromosomes 8a-Genes and Genetic Traits 10-DNA and RNA Learning Target:I can name three differences between DNA and RNA Bell ringer: name the molecules that make up RNA Before; Teacher will go over answers to bell ringer and check for understanding During: Students will complete a VENN diagram of DNA and RNA After: Students will watch a short video clip on transcription and translation. Assessment: Venn Diagram on DNA and RNA Wed., Oct. 21st COS: 3a-Organization of the Human Body 6-Variation with Species 8Chromosomes 8a-Genes and Genetic Traits 10-DNA and RNA Learning Target: I can explain how transcription and translation are related to each other. Bell ringer: Students will define transcription and translation Before: Teacher will go over the bell ringer and check for student understanding During: Students will complete a venn diagram about transcription and translation After: Students will begin a drawing of the cell cycle. Assessment: Venn diagram with transcription and translation. Thursday, Oct. 22nd COS: 3a-Organization of the Human Body 6-Variation with Species 8Chromosomes 8a-Genes and Genetic Traits 10-DNA and RNA Learning Target: I can identify three types of mutation that can occur within the DNA sequence. Bell Ringer: Students will define translation, transcription, and replicaton. Before: Teacher will go over the answers to bell ringer to check for student understanding During: Students will illustrate three types of mutations in DNA sequence. After: Students will watch a short video clip on DNA mutations. Assessment: mutations drawings. Friday, Oct. 22nd COS: 3a-Organization of the Human Body 6-Variation within Species 8Chromosomes 8a-Genes and Genetic Traits 10-DNA and RNA 2c-Mitotic Cycle Learning Targets: I can describe the three parts of the cell cycle Bell ringer: Students will explain the three types of mutations. Before: Teacher will go over the answers to the bell ringer to check for students understanding. During: Students will begin to illustrate the cell cycle After: Students will watch short video clip on cell cycle. Assessment: none.
