Course Objectives:
 Read, write, listen, and speak analytically with openness, understanding, and respect.
 Demonstrate touch-keyboarding techniques and correct stroking techniques.
 Perform software program operations to complete documents efficiently.
 Key modified/blocked/simplified business letters with special letter parts; one- and twopage memorandums in both standard and simplified format; tables; multiple-page reports
with displayed paragraphs and endnotes, footnotes, page numbers, and table of contents;
news releases; tables in either portrait or landscape format.
 Key documents with attractive graphics, merge letters, and utilize templates.
 Key legal documents, including signature lines and legal citations.
 Key letters of application, resumes, and job applications.
 Apply language correctly using proper grammar, structure, spelling, and pronunciation.
TEXT: Keyboarding & Formatting, Complete Course, Lessons 1-120 by VanHuss, Forde, and
Woo (We’ll complete Lessons 83-115 during this quarter)
Course Requirements: Late assignments will lose 50% of the possible points before being
graded.
GRADING: Assignments are due at the beginning of class on the due date identified by the
instructor.
Standard Grading Scale:
93-100% = A
87-89% = B+
77-79% = C+
67-69% = D+
90-92% = A83-86% = B
73-76% = C
60-66% = D
80-82% = B70-72% = C< 60 = Retake

The TLC offers free writing assistance from trained writing tutors during all stages of the writing
process. Located in room 244 (next to the Computer Lab and Student Activity Center) writing
tutors are available Monday-Friday from 8:30am-2:30pm.
