Academic Autobiography
This assignment asks you to focus on yourself as a student, both by looking back and looking
ahead.
After reading Chapters 1 and 4 in your text, consider the following questions and compose your
answers:
1. Describe your experiences to date with schooling, including the ways in which your
experiences were positive and/or negative.
2. How well do you feel your experiences in grade school, middle school, high school,
and/or prior college studies have prepared you for the academic requirements of college?
3. What are your strong points as a student?
4. What do you predict will be your biggest academic challenge in college?
5. What will be your greatest non-academic challenge?
6. In regard to this course, how important is it for you to successfully complete it? Why?
7. Are you willing to spend 6 - 9 hours per week on this course? Why or why not?
8. What do you think it will it take for you to be successful in this course?
Directions:
Compose a typed response (1 page minimum), responding to all of the above questions. Be sure
to put your name on the document, save the document on your computer, and upload and
submit it in the “Dropbox” section* of this online course.
*Log into the course and click on “Dropbox.” You will then click on the title of the assignment
to be submitted. In this case, it will be “Academic Autobiography.” Click on the assignment.
You will then have an opportunity to “find” the paper you’ve prepared, wherever you have saved
it on your computer, and add it (upload it) to the Dropbox. Be sure to click on “Submit” after
you have uploaded the file.
Once it has been graded, you will be able to view your grade and my comments on the
assignment in the Dropbox. Be sure to read the comments on all of your assignments.
