Step 1: Castle Introduction During this first activity you will begin to become familiar with the different castle structures using Kid’s Castle. Click anywhere on the Castle to explore and find out more information. Make sure you find the Gatehouse, Great Hall, and the Great Tower. Once you have located these three areas in the castle, begin answering the questions for Step 1 on your worksheet. After looking through the list, go to your worksheet to find out which terms you need to go back to and define. After reading a bit more about your two chosen castles, list the name and one fun fact for each. Explore some of these photos to gain a better sense of what castles look like, and choose one specific castle that interests you to use for completing step 6 of your worksheet. After looking through the many photos of Welsh Castles, choose one that interests you and list the name, location, and one other fact: Step 7: Inside a Castle The inside of the castle was important too! Read about some of the important parts of the inside of the castle and pay attention to information about tapestries, the plumbing system, and the Great Hall to answer the questions for step 7 on your worksheet. After reading about the inside of a castle, explain some specific characteristics: 1. What was the purpose of tapestries? 2. What kind of plumbing system did the castle have? 3. What type of furniture was in the Great Hall? Step 8: Destroying the Castle Congratulations!!! You have learned all about medieval castles, including about specific castles, defenses, architecture, and the many important parts both inside and outside.
