Mary Kent---maternal aunt---Mary was born in 1954. She has Breast Cancer. Her symptoms began in 2009. Mary is currently critically ill with pneumonia. My mother, Sarah Lawler died in an auto accident in 1990. She was 42 at the time of the accident. My father, Michael, has had no serious illnesses during his life---only spending time in the hospital when my brother and I were born. Sam is my younger brother. He is 24 years old and is unmarried. He also has been very healthy. I have 5 cousins on my dad’s side of the family---four from Aunt Bertha (one died in infancy) and one from Uncle Charlie. The four who are still living are all relatively close to me in age. I don’t remember anything genetically related---although I do remember broken bones and a case of appendicitis once. My mother has three sisters: Mary, Aunt Elizabeth (a nun since her early adulthood), and Aunt Cassie, who is a nurse and has one son who is about the same age as my brother. His name is Roy. My maternal grandmother, Ethel Campbell, died from breast cancer. My mother, Denise, is a breast cancer survivor. My uncle Bob (my mothers only brother has also been diagnosed with breast cancer. One of my first cousins, Katherine, detected breast cancer at the age of 33. Please give a brief overview of the makeup of your most immediate family (excluding your spouse). Include any information which you believe is important. My father once feared he would lose his wife to breast cancer, has encouraged my siblings and I to have the genetic test. I have a brother, John, and a sister, Lori, who are both healthy. Another cousin, Katherine’s sister Lynn, is considering being tested for breast cancer genes but fears the test is too costly to pay for out-of-pocket. Lynn also has a nine year old son with Downs syndrome.
