GETTING STARTED If you have little experience with computers, take a few of our introductory computer courses (COMP 1010-1080) to familiarizes yourself with Microsoft application software as there is no computing course designated in the Tourism Management Diplomas. Communication courses need to be completed as early in your program as possible to best support your success in future course work. Ensure that these courses are in your schedule! ADVANCE CREDITS Should you meet the requirements to receive exemption from MATH 1100, you will be required to make up the 3 credit with an elective of your choice. Transfer credits can be granted on course work from other institutions up to a maximum of 30 credits. To initiate a transfer credit assessment, contact the Admissions department. To do this, you must apply to the BTM. You will receive credit for all your diploma level courses, beginning the BTM with third year standing. COURSE PLANNING, APPROVALS & REGISTRATION Students in the Tourism Management Diploma are responsible for planning and registering in their own courses for the duration of this program. The following program plan does provide a suggested sequencing that may assist you in this process. Academic advising is available to assist you in making informed decisions that will enhance your educational experience. Advising is mandatory for 3 rd and 4th year Canadian students and all International students for course planning/approvals (not to be confused with registration). Submit reference letters to your Program Coordinator. Students taking JUST the diploma must use their electives towards tourism courses. Electives (12 credits) must be tourism related courses, with 3 credits in each of the following: ADVG, EVNT, HMGT. The final 3 credits can come from the above, including TMGT. Students planning to take the full BTM are able to take interdisciplinary electives.
