Description: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force
frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Light work requires walking
or standing to a significant degree and pushing and/or pulling.

The Coordinator, Library Services is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the
Library Services Desk to include supervision of the unit’s personnel and management of
circulation activities, course reserves, Link+, and campus operator functions. The position
ensures the highest level of customer service is provided to library patrons; develops and
implements policies, procedures, and service enhancements; acts as the primary patron
accounts manager; and performs fiscal oversight of the Library Services’ accounts.

30% - Library Services Administration
 Facilitate communication between public and technical services to ensure optimal
functionality of the Integrated Library System (ILS)
 Oversee circulation functions and issues including database configuration and
coordination among all locations within the system
 Investigate and implement new capabilities of the circulation module of the ILS; maintain
quality data and troubleshoot problems
 Identify meaningful statistics available in the ILS; create procedures for capturing and
reporting statistical data
 Provide oversight and coordination of financial accounts for public transactions at all
University library locations (e.g. printing/copying, fines, document delivery)
 Manage the library user record database, ensure data accuracy, and provide
stewardship for overdue materials and outstanding fines; proactively work to get overdue
materials returned to the library or renewed
 Collaborate with other circulation managers throughout NSHE to establish user policies,
manage fines, communicate system changes, etc.

30% - Customer Service Management
 Promote consistent customer services through the creation and implementation of
trainings, policies, documentation, and the development of new services
 Work with individual unit supervisors to ensure continuous open-to-close service
operation of the Library Services Desk; organize and monitor work and staffing of
assigned units
 Resolve second tier customer service issues and complaints
 Facilitate and authorize appropriate access to library resources in special
circumstances, working in conjunction with the Associate Director, IT User Services to
create necessary library accounts
 Collaborate with the Chair, Research Services to maximize efficiency and proficiency of
staff and services provided at the Library Services Desk and online
 Communicate regularly with Libraries Administration regarding public services issues;
make recommendations to improve the user experience
30% - Personnel and Operations Management
 Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate Library Services Desk staff; provide indirect
supervision to a large number of student workers
 Establish, implement, and manage goals for Library Services Desk unit
 Oversee Library Services Desk operations including staffing, user services, Link+, , and
material circulation
 Create and maintain documentation of Library Services policies and procedures
 Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive training program for new
employees; act as primary authority and trainer for use of the ILS for all internal and
external library catalog users
 Collaborate with faculty and other library managers to identify and improve service areas
and offerings; develop initiatives to assess and improve Library Services operations
 Oversee department communications utilizing Web and email updates and reports
 Follow library services trends; investigate and recommend adoption of new technologies,
services, and software
10% - Public Information Dissemination
 Coordinate the building hours for the main library; oversee communication of current and
accurate hours on the Web and in various formats within the building
 Ensure all library departments are up-to-date in their documentation of events and
classes
 Manage the main library’s public photocopiers, including equipment, training,
documentation, costs, and supplies; work with other library staff to minimize downtime
and confusion in the event of equipment changes or outages
 Confer regularly with students, faculty, staff, and outside community regarding Library
Services questions, issues, and problems

The Coordinator, Library Services has the authority to make operational decisions within the
Library Services Desk unit to include patron records, circulation, campus operator, and reserves
functions. For example, the incumbent has the ability to determine resource access allocation
needs for non-University employees who are routinely involved in campus activities. The
Coordinator also has the ability to increase, reduce, or waive overdue library fees and has the
authority to determine subordinate employee schedules, job duties, and special projects.

takes to the supervisor for resolution and/or consultation. Provide examples. If a line of
progression, describe the supervisory consultation at the highest level.
The Coordinator, Library Services must consult with the Director, Information Services regarding
the approval of new classified staff positions within the Library Services Desk unit. Exceptional
circumstances and changes of significance, such as an adjustment to policy which may affect
multiple units, must also be discussed with the Director prior to implementation.
