4. Parking Issues

Meeting with superintendent, Trustee Lillian Ormond, Parent council director Scott
Dicker, VP and Principal on October 28th
Changing the “Bottleneck” which is the entrance of the parking lot
Additional Issues with the Blvd changes for buses with the city as well
Bi-law $105 fine for parking in fire route bus area uncertainty
Possible painting of lines to clearly show the fire route in the bus lane at the front of the
school
How many spots currently on sight? Answered by Principal: 62 in total- 50+ staff, 5 day
care
5. Article for review “People for Education” by Bruce Rodrigues the chief officer of Ontario’s
Education Quality and Accountability Office

6. EQAO results discussion

The results yielded the following comments and discussion:










Lower then the board and the province in all areas of the testing at grade 3
Females significantly higher than males in all areas for both tests- How to help males
improve? What is wrong?
Teacher input: Terminology changes are affecting the results; explain how and why you
got this answer in math not just the answer.
Staff PA Day was used to see where the problems arose- deficiencies to be supported in
the classroom.
Questions to address change: How to get the level 2’s to get a level 3?
Why no level 4’s in math for grade 3’s? A lot of level 2’s?
VP noted that this is just 1 type of data that is used as a staff to help students to Report
Card etc.
Cohort data always at Ray Lewis grade 3 and grade 6 looked at many improvements
Data Dashboard Concept: Plan, Act, and Assess: What worked so well in grade 6 writing
can we apply some of those skills to math? Instructional Coach- Linda Giedis (sp?)
Directions team looked at specific questions and look for struggles in questions and
analysis of questionnaires- support and help kids to increase learning



Scott: Is there support coming from the board for the discrepancy in male/female test
scores?
Literacy and Numeracy Supports still working?
Math experts? Available to teachers
7. Umbrella Centre Update




Changes: no full time leader at the site
5 after school programs
Decrease in numbers due to full day kindergarten
Looking to expand into toddler care 12-18 months with a 5:1 to fill vacant spots
8. Teacher’s Report

Many Extra-curricular activities are under way: cross country meet, band preparing for
show, social justice food drive next week (food to be stored in the library), volleyball
teams

$11, 416.18 Terry Fox Run great news and celebration
50’s day in honor of the Secretary who turned 70 cards and gifts from all the classes
Full Day Kindergarten is up and running with classes of 30, 30, 30, 31 large and lively
Construction almost done- pavement done landscaping to be completed putting a door in
room 103
Nutrition Days at the school- Open House used one, 9 left additionally ones will be used
for Halloween, Graduation, movie night, Christmas
Food days are all going to be on Thursdays and all follow nutrition guidelines
Interviews Dates: Reports home 20th and interview days
10. New Business
Fundraising Presented by Karen Johnson

Fundraising Movie: December 5th Smurfs 2 (out December 3rd)
o Teachers and students to make the posters to advertise and flyers
o Smurf costume, Santa Claus, elves, sing along and Best seat in the house raffle,
more raffles? Donations? Pita Pit and Ginos



Subs $5 charge bought for $3.40 $1.60 profit – made about $400 last year
o $3.15 cost to us- $1.85 profit
Community member will donate for and November, January and May and June dates to
be determined
New Idea! Talked to Swiss Chalet Ray Lewis Day for a thousand dollars donate 10%
sales eat-in or take out wear Ray Lewis gear Friday in December
o How to advertise? School website, school newsletter and calendar
New business: Halloween Dance (Karen Johnson)


Snowball? Never forced to dance with anyone
Student council periods 3, 4, 5 advisory 6 and 7
