Goals (Competency)
TSW be able to identify, understand and master the following: key ideas and details, craft and
structure, integration of knowledge and ideas, range of reading and level of text complexity,
text types and purposes, production and distribution of writing, research to build and present
knowledge, range of writing, comprehension and collaboration, presentation of knowledge and
ideas, conventions of standard English, knowledge of language, vocabulary acquisition and
use.
Enduring Understandings: To meet the standards, student will need to understand:
How to read literature and cite textual evidence; read informational text through the analysis of
U.S. documents, write while maintaining clarity and coherence; speak and listen while
participating group discussions; and build language through useful vocabulary.
Essential Questions (What provocative questions will foster inquiry, understanding, and
transfer of learning? These should be posted in classroom to provide relevance for learning
and can be included on assessments as higher-level questions.) To understand, students
will need to consider such questions as:
1. What are the English Language Arts Common Core State Standards?
2. How do I learn the English Language Arts Common Core State Standards?
3. Which stories are worth reading?
4. What if everyone were the same?
5. What makes something valuable?
