News from Mrs. Nelson Grade 1 September 24, 2015 Thursday Greetings! Just as a reminder, there is an in-service day for teachers tomorrow! There will be no school for the kids! The staff will be working on a variety of things that pertain to the teaching standards, fluency updates, technology updates and much more. It’s a long day, but so worth it! I completed PALs testing with my class on Tuesday. I enjoyed working 1:1 with each student. Today the class experienced their first MAPs testing in the computer lab. They took part 1 of the math assessment. The test really digs deep into many math concepts. There was some frustration, but we made it through it! I reminded them to do their best! We will finish up math on Monday. Our MAPs reading test will be Tuesday and Wednesday. We made some pretty spectacular leaf wreaths this week. They are on display in the hallway. Another thing I like about his class is their willingness to help others. As kids finished their project, they quickly found a buddy to help. I am a lucky teacher! Have a good weekend! This week in reading: *reviewed the initial sounds of d, n, b, c *reviewed the final sound of /l/ spelled ll *worked on short i and o rhyming patters *adding –s to the end of words to mean more than 1 *high frequency words *fluency practice Please read the books that were sent home in your child’s book bag.
