Ward 83 is a 10 bedded ward designed for children
with long- term ventilation needs and children with
acquired brain injuries requiring rehabilitation. Our role
is to prepare children and their families for the child’s
discharge home. Our aim is to help the child to achieve
their full potential and ensure support for home care is
in place prior to discharge. The multidisciplinary team
input is an essential part of the
rehabilitation/developmental/discharge programme.
You will gain clinical skills relevant to the speciality
which are transferrable into other clinical areas.
We recognise parents as the central figures in the
provision of their child’s care. We acknowledge that all
children have essential needs and rights. As a team of
professionals we aim to provide an accountable
service which will encourage our families in decision
making. Our emphasis is placed upon enhancing the
quality of each child’s life and the rehabilitation of the
family unit. Ultimately we believe children are best
cared for in the home environment.
We have a small staff room for breaks and the hospital
canteen.
