School Psychologist Reports to: Director of Pupil Services Revised: June 2014 JOB SUMMARY The School Psychologist has the responsibility to perform all necessary psychological services to the students as identified as essential functions. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 1. Responsible for conducting individual student assessments which may include the areas of intelligence, academic achievement, perceptual skills, social/emotional development and social/adaptive skills. 2. Prepare written psychoeducational reports. 3. Use assessment data to help develop educational programs for students. 4. Participate on student support teams to develop and evaluate pre-referral interventions. 5. Assist with implementation of interventions when appropriate. 6. Maintain appropriate documentation of school efforts and follow-up if unsuccessful. 7. Consult with teachers and administrators regarding student behavior, social concerns, and academic achievement in order to develop strategies to meet the student's educational needs. 8. Consult with parents to assist them in understanding child development and to develop strategies to address their concerns. 9. Assist regular and special education teachers with classroom academic and behavior management plans. 10. Identify appropriate outside resources for parents and teachers. 11. Provide relevant staff development and parent training. 12. Collaborate with Pupil Services Team members to develop and implement student programs. 13. Assist in the organization and evaluation of the Pupil Services Team as implemented at the building and District levels. 14. Provide brief student interventions to improve social/emotional development, alleviate situational stressors and assist with academic difficulties. 15. Conduct screenings to determine if other interventions may be appropriate. 16. Intervene with students and consult with parents, staff, and other outside agencies when students evidence suicidal ideation, gesturing or attempts. 17. Maintain knowledge of current law and practice relative to special education/504 due process procedures. 18. Assure compliance with due process procedures from referral through placement. 19. Chair IEP/Child Study meetings and complete IEP/Child Study report and other associated paperwork. 20. Provide in service to staff addressing current due process requirements and practices. 21. Remain free of any alcohol or illegal substance in the workplace throughout employment in the District. 22. Serve as a positive role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings. Responsible for helping to instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values.
