3 small written assignments

Madame Miller’s Rules 2014-2015
1. Most importantly, be respectful to EVERYONE in the classroom. Put-downs, bad
attitudes and/or disrespectful comments will not be tolerated. FYI- a sarcastic “So” or
“Whatever” WILL earn you a detention!
2. When the bell is FINISHED RINGING at the beginning of the period, you are to be IN
YOUR SEAT, QUIET, and ready to start class.
3.
Bring with you EVERY DAY the following materials: net book, earbuds, a 1” 3-ring
binder with TABS, paper, pencil (have a “back-up”), pen, AND marker or highligter.
Textbooks may be left in the classroom when they are not being used for an
assignment.
4.
CHEATING will NOT be TOLERATED and will result in an F on the assignment/test.
5.
If you are TARDY to class bring a PASS.
6.
Remain IN your seat until the bell ending the period has rung. There will be NO
heading toward or LINING UP at the door.
7.
STAY AWAKE AND keep your head OFF your desk! Paying attention is a MUST!
8. LATE HOMEWORK will be accepted for 75% credit past the due date. So that this
practice is not abused, late work will only be accepted up to 3 times per grading period.
9. ALL MAKE UP WORK due to absence must be made-up within 1 week. After that it will
no longer be accepted. It is your responsibility to check the “HOMEWORK LOG” on my
website:
www.madamemiller.wikispaces.com. Daily homework assignments will ONLY
be posted HERE…not on my board!
10. Cell phone usage is prohibited and the phone will be confiscated as stated in the
school’s student handbook.
11. The use of any online translator is STICTLY PROHIBITED in this class. You will not
learn how to construct sentences if the translator does it for you. You may use an
online dictionary, such as www.wordreference.com. Using a translator will result in an
“F” on the assignment.
Upon breaking a rule you will be added to my “strike list”. After 3 strikes you will
receive a detention (with the exceptions of “cheating”/”using a translator” and
“attitude”, which will result in an “F” and immediate detention, respectively).
MORE THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW
A.
Grades are determined by test scores, quiz scores, homework, class work,
projects, and class participation. You will also have a notebook grade every
grading period, so KEEP any 3-hole-punch paper I throw your way!
Additionally, you will need to make tabs for the following sections of our
notebook: UNIT 1, UNIT 2, UNIT 3, UNIT 4, UNIT 5, UNIT 6, VERBS, CULTURE,
PRONUNCIATION, and RETURNED PAPERS. As for semester exams, the tests
WILL count toward both the 9 weeks grade AND the semester grade.
B.
Homework is a very integral part of this course. You can expect to have an
average of 3 small written assignments per week. Failure to complete 3
assignments will result in a note sent home to your parents.
C.
Class participation is also an important part of this class. I will have at least
one participation grade per week and if you are not prepared for class (in
other words- you are not learning the vocabulary), you WILL lose points.
D.
Special projects are also expected to be completed on time. Late projects
will result in a 10% -per-day-late reduction.
E.
School activities excuse you from class time- not class work! If you are at
school but will be missing my class, you are to turn in the assignment which
is due and GET THE NEW HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT that same day.
F.
Extra Credit may be obtained in the following ways. You will earn 1 point
every time you put the complete, correct date in French on your homework,
test, and quiz papers. Also, you will earn 10 points for every 5 stamps that
you acquire in your binder. You will have many opportunities to earn
stamps.
G.
Most importantly, if you do not understand something, PLEASE ASK! That is
why I am here. My planning period this year is 5th, and I am also available
during Activity and 3rd period Study Hall in the Commons. If you have a
question or need extra help, DON’T HESITATE TO STOP IN! My door is
always “open,” even if it is physically closed! 
