assignment.

In-class work: 15 points each
Quizzes: Between 25 and 75 points
Tests, projects, and papers: 100 points each
Binders: 50 points
Journals: 50 points total (5 points per entry – 10 total entries)
1
Homework:
Homework will be given every night. On the nights where the student does not have written
work but must read, they should expect an in-class assignment on the reading the next day. All
homework should be typed and turned in at the start of class. Late homework is subject to a
grade reduction or the possibility of it not being accepted at all.
In- Class Work:
In-class work will be frequent and must be completed during class. In-class work includes but is
not limited to, in-class writing, note taking, and pop-quizzes. Not all in-class work will be
graded. If in-class work is missed due to an excused absence, the student can make it up at home.
The only exception is pop-quizzes. In this situation, the student will be exempt from that grade.
Quizzes:
Quizzes will be given periodically. Depending on the length of the unit depends on if there will
be a quiz. Students will be given at least 5 days notices of when a quiz will take place. Students
will be notified as to the format of the quiz at this time as well. These quizzes will also include
vocabulary quizzes which will be given on every “A” day. Half of the vocabulary quiz grade will
be the completion of the corresponding unit in the vocabulary book which is due on the previous
“R” day.
Tests, Projects, and Papers:
During the quarter, a combination, to equal at least 3, of tests, projects, and papers will be given.
Students will have at least 7 days notification as to the test date and will have at least 10 days to
work on projects and papers. Students will have a study guide for tests and rubrics for projects
and papers.
Binders:
Students will keep a binder that is only for English. They will keep handouts, notes, returned
graded work, and in-class work in their binder. At the end of each quarter, students will turn in
their notebooks by 3pm on the end of quarter testing day for English even if they drop that day.
2
There will be a sample binder, along with a list of what should be in the binder, in the classroom.
The only thing that will not be in the binder is the student’s journal.
Journals:
Every student will keep a journal. The journals will be due every Monday at the start of class,
unless the class drops then they will turn it in on Tuesday at the start of class. At least one entry
will be due a week. The students but have a total of 10 by the end of the quarter which means
some weeks they should do extra entries. It is up to the students to choose which weeks they will
do extra entries. See the journal handout for more information.
Plagiarism:
PLAGIARISM OF ANY KIND WILL NOT BE TOLERATED! Please see the section on
plagiarism in the student handbook or refer to the plagiarism handout on what constitutes
plagiarism.
Google Docs:
Every student must sign up for a Google account so that they can participate in Google Docs. A
section for each individual class will be created and the student will enter into their
corresponding class. More information on how to sign up for and use Google Docs will be
provided later.
