JOB TITLE
Seasonal Assistant Warden
OVERALL PURPOSE
GRADE
To be part of the West Warden team who manage and
maintain the Coast Path, Inland Paths, NPA sites and
conservation sites in the West of the National Park.
Scale 1 £12,614 - £14,013 (£6.69 - £7.26 per hour)

Help maintain good relationships with landowners and
farmers, local organisations, other Authority teams,
volunteers, and members of public.
Full time 37 hours/week.

Main Responsibilities:
Assist the Warden Teams to:
1. Carry out an annual programme of maintenance and improvements to the
Coast Path and public rights of way.
2. Maintain National Park Authority sites ensuring that they are managed in
accordance with agreed standards and are always well presented.
3. Undertake practical conservation work on sites owned and/or managed by the
Park Authority. (This includes stock handling, vegetation control and burning.)
4. Ensure that work is carried out to the highest standards of safety and
presentation.
5. Carry out all work in accordance with best working practice and good
conservation and habitat management principles.
6. Contribute to routine maintenance of machinery, tools, equipment, vehicles
and trailers.
7. Attend relevant training and undertake personal development as required.

9. Contribute to the wider work of the National Park Authority and carry out such
other duties as may reasonably be required.
Carrying out the main responsibilities will include a range of tasks such as:
Manage vegetation according to site plan or work programme, by hand or
mechanically using strimmers, mowers etc.
Erect, repair and maintain path and site furniture such as gates, stiles, steps,
bridges, seats, bins, signs and information panels.
Repair and maintain path and site surfaces, drainage and boundaries such as stone
walls, hedge banks, and fences.
Tree planting, maintenance, pruning and felling.
Litter picking, emptying bins or clearing fly-tipping from sites.
Undertake liaison, public relations and co-ordination work with farmers/landowners,
local communities and other organisations operating in the National Park area
(National Trust, etc.) when necessary.
Participate in the checking and moving of stock used for conservation grazing.
Drive and operate a variety of vehicles/machines involved with the above tasks.
