PEMBROKESHIRE COAST NATIONAL PARK AUTHORITY JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE Seasonal Assistant Warden OVERALL PURPOSE GRADE To be part of the West Warden team who manage and maintain the Coast Path, Inland Paths, NPA sites and conservation sites in the West of the National Park. Scale 1 £12,614 - £14,013 (£6.69 - £7.26 per hour) RESPONSIBLE TO Warden Manager - West LINE MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY FOR WORKING CONTACTS/ PARTNERS None JOB CATEGORY (FULL OR PART TIME, TEMPORARY OR PERMANENT) BASE(S) Help maintain good relationships with landowners and farmers, local organisations, other Authority teams, volunteers, and members of public. Full time 37 hours/week. temporary contract mid-June to end October Withybush Depot, Haverfordwest Main Responsibilities: Assist the Warden Teams to: 1. Carry out an annual programme of maintenance and improvements to the Coast Path and public rights of way. 2. Maintain National Park Authority sites ensuring that they are managed in accordance with agreed standards and are always well presented. 3. Undertake practical conservation work on sites owned and/or managed by the Park Authority. (This includes stock handling, vegetation control and burning.) 4. Ensure that work is carried out to the highest standards of safety and presentation. 5. Carry out all work in accordance with best working practice and good conservation and habitat management principles. 6. Contribute to routine maintenance of machinery, tools, equipment, vehicles and trailers. 7. Attend relevant training and undertake personal development as required. 8. Carrying out the main responsibilities will include a range of tasks such as: Manage vegetation according to site plan or work programme, by hand or mechanically using strimmers, mowers etc. Erect, repair and maintain path and site furniture such as gates, stiles, steps, bridges, seats, bins, signs and information panels. Repair and maintain path and site surfaces, drainage and boundaries such as stone walls, hedge banks, and fences. Tree planting, maintenance, pruning and felling. Litter picking, emptying bins or clearing fly-tipping from sites. Undertake liaison, public relations and co-ordination work with farmers/landowners, local communities and other organisations operating in the National Park area (National Trust, etc.) when necessary. Participate in the checking and moving of stock used for conservation grazing. Drive and operate a variety of vehicles/machines involved with the above tasks. Essential Desirable NVQ level 2 or equivalent in conservation or land management Qualifications Certificates for use of brushcutters, and other relevant machinery. Experience Experience of practical countryside work Experienced at towing trailers. including use of machinery such as brush cutters and mowers, installation of signage and access furniture such as gates, stiles, fences, etc. Skills/Aptitudes Able to communicate and explain work to landowners and path users. Able to contribute to the planning of tasks. Able to undertake basic servicing and repair of tools and equipment. Basic knowledge and identification of plant species and habitats. Be interested in and committed to the conservation and enjoyment principles of the National Park. Able to work in a small close-knit team. Other Able to carry out the range of duties outlined above and willingness to work outdoors in all weathers Ability to speak Welsh.
