New, Fun Way to Teach Kids Not To Bully – Jangala a Must Have for
Classrooms
With the start of a school year, the topic of bullying comes up again as students
begin to settle into new classrooms and meet new classmates. Some schools take
efforts to put an end to bullying through assemblies, discussions, workshops and
more that teach kids why bullying is so harmful and what can be done to stop it. A
new book and program by Sherry Blair and Nancy Azevedo Bonilla called Jangala
Tribal Warriors: Living, Growing and Learning From The Heart, is helping to
raise awareness of bullying in children from a young age. All teachers, school
administrators, and youth group leaders should share the teachings of Jangala with
their students to try and put an end to bullying.
Jangala Tribal Warriors: Living, Growing and Learning From The Heart is the
first of a series designed to increase children's capacity to handle their feelings, and
conflicts while building healthy and strong relationships. The concepts are based on
positive psychology, Nurtured Heart(R) language and rational thinking skill
building. Two of the younger characters, Nina and Gabby get entangled in a conflict
that stemmed from teasing and we learn how the entire tribe stands together to
make change for the better in their Jangala - a magical rainforest where peaceful,
loving communities and tribes are the norm and expectation.
Children will benefit from reading the book by:
•
Learning about non-violence and peaceful living in an effort to stand against
violence and to stand up for one another.
•
Understanding that peace and harmony is the goal.
•
How to focus on their strengths and what is going strong rather than what
goes wrong.
•
Building healthy, positive and Nurtured Heart(R) families, schools and
communities.
•
Embracing the beauty of diversity and being interdependent with one
another regardless of differences.
•
Interacting and relating by seeing how they stand together as the human
tribe.
•
Living, growing and learning from their hearts.
Praise for Jangala:
"Jangala sets the groundwork to unify and establish open-communication among the
students in the classroom. Through Jangala's story-line and personable characters,
my students have become more self-reflective and given a positive outlook on
conflict resolution.
Jangala has become for me a constant means by which I address social emotional
scenarios in the classroom. It has been effective in exposing the students to life-long
character traits: fairness, patience, understanding, considering the feelings and
perspectives of others; words and notions that can, oftentimes, be difficult for a
young child to conceptualize."
