The lectures and time allotment are based on the exam blueprints and will cover all body systems, physiology, pathophysiology, assessment strategies and treatment options for medical and surgical critically ill patients. This course will benefit those who have critical and/or progressive care experience and need/want a clinical update and review of latest best practice and those who have studied and need/want a final review prior to taking the CCRN/PCCN certification exam. This seminar is not intended as a basic critical care course and is recommended for nurses with at least one year of critical or progressive care experience. The course instructor is Carol Rauen RN, MS, CCNS, CCRN, PCCN, CEN. Carol is an independent critical care Clinical Nurse Specialist and Education Consultant. Carol Rauen has over thirty years experience in clinical nursing, including roles as staff nurse, nurse clinician, nurse manager, critical care educator, and clinical nurse specialist. She has worked on a Surgical Floor, in Coronary Care, Surgical/Trauma ICU, Cardiovascular ICU and the Emergency Department. Carol's primary role is that of an independent clinical nurse specialist and education consultant. She also works part-time as a staff nurse in the Emergency Department of Outer BanksHospital, North Carolina. She is widely published in nursing literature, including nine chapters in major critical care nursing texts and multiple journal articles. She currently serves on the editorial board of AACN Advanced Critical Care and is a contributing editor for Critical Care Nurse. Carol is an experienced lecturer and nurse educator, having spoken at the AACN National Teaching Institute since 1992. She served as president of the Greater Washington DC chapter of AACN and as chairperson for the 1998 NTI and 2004 Advanced Practice Work Group. She received her CCRN certification in 1985 and has maintained certification since that time. She received her CCNS in 2003, PCCN in 2006 and CEN in 2011, and recently became ANCC Gerontological Nursing Certified in 2013.
